Ironic twist -- minutes after I tweeted this, a landscape gardener knocked on the door, asking if I wanted work done. I said NO and explained why I'm against gardens being intensely manicured. We're in the end game, environmentally. We HAVE to prevent the destruction of greenery.
Next phase: to meadowify the scrappy lawn and get foxgloves growing in the corner to the left of the pond.

Because I teach mostly majors & minors in an environmental sciences department, the environmental cost of LLMs is point #1 in the "AI Policy" part of my syllabus, & we discuss it the first day of the semester & throughout. This message must be part of our teaching, now more than ever.
I struggle with the reporting on ChatGPT in education because it often confirms society’s negative bias against young people—oh no, this generation is unsaveable!—when it’s possible to just educate people to be less credulous about it. which is why I wrote this: so teachers could print and assign it

This is truly mind-blowing. At first I only looked at the crack appearing in the foreground in the pavement, then I saw the sudden and fast movement of the earth in the distance and on the right. 🤯🧪⚒️ youtu.be/77ubC4bcgRM?...

All book authors should echo this stance, that AI cannot be used to replace illustrators, copyeditors, or any other human labor needed to create a high-quality book. I'm writing a proposal for my next book now, but have already decided to reject any contract that even suggests using AI.
Writers: before you sign a contract with a publisher, make sure AI isn't replacing your illustrator, your translator, your editor, your jacket designer. Readers: if you're thinking of buying a book, do the same. Refuse. Resist. If AI garbage doesn't sell, people will stop making it.
