First rule of old tech/cable boxes is that you never get rid of them (I'll make an exception for power cords unless they are mickey-mouse style). As soon as you *do* get rid of them, I guarantee you you'll need something out of that box.

I still had a 10 foot long phone plug extension cable in my big box of cables until I finally tossed it. That I'd had since 1992. Turned out that it wasn't bluetooth compatible. Darn it.

And every once-a-decade that happens, I can justify hoarding cables. I'm not a madman -- I recently parted with some LPT and FireWire 400 cables. I'm Charlton Hestoning my AC adapters, ya bastards!

Lucky you! About a year ago I culled my giant box of really old adapters and power cables. Not even a month later I needed at least two of the ones that had been there for at least 15 years. Not sold anywhere anymore 😒

I used a couple screws from my coffee can of misc. screws and bolts.. so proud of myself.

Finally, some good news

I'm still holding on to my s-video cables, I think they are going to make a come-back. Same with fire-wire, VGA, component, composite,... Shit, I have a hard time parting with my 300 ohm antenna stuff.

Amazing! My box of old cables and cords remain (sadly) untouched.

I needed one of those thicker “micro” usb cables to sync a Sixaxis controller a couple days ago and found one in a box of loose wires. And to think I almost donated the whole thing to a thrift store last week! Close call.
