Carnegie was a robber baron like all the rest and only did those things so his name would be associated with good things instead of all the harm he did. No billionaire is a good billionaire!

If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you. Lyndon B. Johnson

fElon is a wannabe at best, as he didn't create or found a damned thing; he BOUGHT companies that were already going concerns, and CLAIMED CREDIT for the work of others. He's a NOTHING, just like #traitortrump.

I saw the republicans tried to defend him stating that musk gave this and that many millions in donations last year. But I have yet to find out what good these donations did.

Yes, but let's put Carnegie in perspective too. His biographers prove that he was a ruthless employer who worked his workers 80 hours a week under terrible conditions and paid them poorly. He made a fortune and then late in life worried about the judgments of God and history, tried to make amends.

Some of these billionaires are cancers on our society. To expect any humanities from Elon is just wishful thinking. Jeff Bezos's wife had to divorce him to ever get any societal good from his billions. They use us and country get what they want and spit us out.

That’s the difference today- a lot of the wealthy back then thought it was their duty to give back to the communities/people and the country that helped make them rich- and most today just want more with a few exceptions

The unintended consequence of that is that Congress will be filled only with the independently wealthy, people owned by wealthy donors, or people asking for donations on GoFundMe. Actually, that might still be an improvement...

This take is beyond laughable. Carnegie crushed workers, opposed unions, and built his empire on exploitation. Musk—whatever you think of him—hasn’t "cut food and medicine" to children. This is brain-dead propaganda for people who don’t Google. Historical illiteracy mixed with pure delusion.

Imagine! I thought a lot about this because there's so many different schools and large factories and many other things that left an amazing legacy of a wealthy person. Mansions and yachts aren't really a legacy for humankind. And you can't take it with you!

ELON PURCHASED TWITTER FOR $44BILLION IN 2020. HE PROBABLY USED IT TO TIP THE VOTES IN TRUMP'S FAVOR PLUS THE MONEY HE WAS OFFERING. TWITTER HAS ABOUT "500 MILLION USERS." SO MAKES SENSE. THIS WAS PART OF HIS EVIL PLAN TO BRAINWASH AND PERSUADE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. I CAN SENSE HE HAS EVIL PLANS.

Ah yes the fella who ordered numerous massacres of laborers. Dems always looking for the good oligarchs and robber barons before actually helping the workers. Fuck musk but Carnegie? Really? This is how capitalism poorly does PR. #typical

AI: "Ridden out on the rails" means to be forcefully expelled from a community or town, often as a punishment, where the person is placed on a rail and carried out of the area, essentially "being run out of town on a rail"; this is an old-fashioned idiom signifying a harsh, public form of exile.

Yeah, whatever happened to philanthropy? Trump hasn't ever given one single dollar to charity either, or done anything worthwhile for anyone or for our country. He's just a mean, cheap bastard.

Trump loves to see his name on Buildings Venues like Golf ⛳️ Tourneys He talks about this ad nauseum slaps a Gold Sign where ever w his name How many Hospitals Libraries College Campuses zoo exhibit Park multipurpose Arena Concert Hall Museum wing even a Veterans Ball field is his name on anywhere

Andrew Carnegie put children in factories & adults in 12 hour days on 7 day weeks for slave wages with no safety conditions & despised unions But we can use him to attack Musk so he's our HeRo even though he shat on ALL of our principles

when it comes to billionaires... it's hard to find good people. Getting that rich means you have to fuck over a shocking number of people, and you just can't do it morally or ethically.

Carnegie, Frick, and the Pinkertons. It’s evil capitalism in a nutshell and his libraries are just a thin chocolate shell drizzled on a life of putrified animal waste.

Elon is a loser and a scumbag and the GOP are no better. They only take from the poor to benefit the rich and then complain about taxpayers utilizing these services we pay for, but never blink an eye when 47 wastes taxpayers dollars to go golfing every weekend, attend the Daytona 500, or Super Bowl

Perfect analogy old money didn’t really want or need to be a celebrity. New money wants to be celebrities. Same could be said for celebrities old Hollywood wanted their privacy. Newer celebrities have a need to show and tell everything.

There is a big difference between old money and new money.Old money wives didn’t work they were on the boards of charities, schools, and arts. They don’t brag about how much money they have. Don’t need attention if they donate anywhere. New money not as charitable, they need to have their egos

Stroked. Now don’t get me wrong old money may not have done things ethical or legal to make that money. At least they believed in giving. Not Elon, Trump, Bezos. Except Bezos ex-wife Mackenzie Scott. She donates billions of her wealth. Since her divorce in 2019. Over19 billion so far to non-profits

Oh Carnegie did so so much, particularly for education. He wasn't an angel but I wonder if many Americans know much about him, except Carnegie Hall. And he didn't come from privilege, very far from it. I've been to his childhood home in Dumferline. The polar opposite to Musk.

The New Deal did one thing more than it did anything else. It put the people to work. I define World Economic Apartheid as Reaganomics in the form of privatization. Taking 13 US billionaires & just shy of a trillion dollar National Debt. Add 45 years.

This is from Ronald Reagan, from the transcript of “A Time for Choosing”, 1964. “…But as a former Democrat, I can tell you Norman Thomas isn’t the only man who has drawn this parallel to socialism with the present administration, because back in 1936, Mr. Democrat himself, Al Smith,

the great American, came before the American people and charged that the leadership of his Party was taking the Party of Jefferson, Jackson, and Cleveland down the road under the banners of Marx, Lenin, and Stalin…The government can find some charge to bring against any

Now 800 US billionaires & a 36 trillion dollar National Debt. At the same time some 140 world billionaires in 1987 turned into 2800 world billionaires today. FDR said, “Necessitous men are not free men”.

The billionaire class and their millionaire minions owe it to the world to make sure nobody ever goes to bed hungry. They owe it to the world to see to it that everybody has a warm, dry, and safe place to sleep every night. The planet does not deserve to be treated like a giant trash can.

Carnegie also gave New York (and the world) the glorious icon of Carnegie Hall in New York and brought culture and classical music, among many other theatrical arts, to the people of the USA over 100 years ago. It is still a highlight of his generosity for all to see.

I'm sorry to hear that, I thought he was a giver, not just a taker. Surely there must be a compromise which provides just sharing. Maybe it does exist, but doesn't attract attention. There are millions of small businesses around the world which are just and fair.

Carnegie is not an admirable person. He build his fortune of the backs of coal miners who worked in dangerous conditions, got sick, and died. He was a violent strikebreaker. He exploited monopolies. Then he put his name on a lot of institutions USING MONEY THAT HE STOLE FROM US IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Even if he did some "good", why he should get to decide which charitable acts and institutions are worthy of such largesse? Musk, obviously, is worse, but Carnegie is not the role model you are looking for.

Exactly. I don’t believe one can become a billionaire business person without taking advantage of others for their own gain. Although I do think the libraries were wonderful and impactful, Carnegie boldly proclaimed it was the job of the rich to choose how they helped people with their fortunes.

Yea my understanding is that he threw a bunch of $$$ way later in life at those things specifically to leave behind a charitable legacy knowing his would not be as it stood. Milton Hershey, then Im hear for it. Don Vultaggio if we wanna go current. If only they were the rule not the exception.

Elon Musk's wealth is primarily tied to Tesla, making him much less liquid than Carnegie despite his massive net worth. Musk's philanthropic activity has often been on innovation to solve global issues (climate change, renewable energy, space exploration), rather than traditional charity work.

Mansa Musa, the richest man to ever live, built libraries, schools, mosques, and crashed local economies by giving away so much of his wealth at once (he had to once buy his own gold back at higher rates just to stabilize the market, and he DID). Elon Musk does ... this bullshit.
