As anyone with eyes or a brain can see, this is just dark sarcasm - “You’ll be fine, just be one of the good ones” - rather than some kind of commitment to sending people to camps. Also, this is insane. Having every word picked over for the next set of rhetorical crimes for which I must repent.

It all feels so very Soviet show trial. You can never be acquitted. Your attempts to defend yourself or just casually talk about the subject will be scrutinized, and something will always be found, for your next thoughtcrime requiring your denunciation and rehabilitation. It goes on forever.

“You used the word community wrong.” “Are you sure you’re the right person to make that joke?” “Your job is to listen and learn and reflect.” Meanwhile no one can identify any core offense and they get angry when you ask what it is. They’re not here to educate you.

The very easy critique here is you should avoid making tasteless jokes about a community you aren't part of, and if you do make one instead of getting defensive about it, actually listen to the people it impacts and apologize. It's allyship 101.

Endlessly demanding that our good faith straight allies grovel for forgiveness for fake transgressions that toxic assholes in the ✨🌈Queer Community🌈✨ invented because they want to exert power over well meaning straight people is how we end up with fewer allies.

If someone stops being an ally because a queer person said their shitty joke sucked on the internet, they were never an ally. If you're making jokes about a community you aren't a part of, you need to be open to the fact that they might not land and that it's fine to say "Sorry, my bad".

You actually do not have to apologize to the bad faith assholes who apply the maximally uncharitable interpretation to every single thing you say and do, even if those assholes have marginalized identities.

The dick move is demanding the apology then making death threats when you don’t get it. I’m pretty sure that’s the kind of insanity Stansil is talking about.

As long as you don’t make an issue of their identities then treating them in the most contemptuous fashion possible is likely a public service. You don’t have to, of course— we all need to pick our fights — but the effort is appreciated.

It's not most members faults, but it's crazy how 2000-era mainstream perception of gay vibes was "sexually unrepressed". Now, the trans community's perceived vibes are "grammar Nazi"

I get what Stancil is doing here. I just don’t think that level of dark sarcasm works well on social media in 2026. Even Sarah Silverman and David Cross backed away from that kind of material once jokes started circulating as isolated clips instead of in full context. And he isn’t exactly them.

The thing is, I think context collapse like that is really bad and not something we should justify or encourage. It's simply impossible to have a conversation if you have to craft every sentence with the worst possible bad-faith interpretation of it in mind.
