Trump raped children. So did Bill Clinton and a bunch of sleazeball monsters. It's time to say that out loud, repeatedly.

Like…immigration was always America’s thing. We have a big statue about it in one of our (and the world’s) most prominent cities. It used to be our brand that America is where you go to get a fresh start. All gone, because white supremacy.

I'm not sure "why haven't you committed seppuku, think of your family's honor" will get the dignified response it deserves

@mgoblog.bsky.social and @mgoseth.bsky.social I know you've addressed in the past, but can you guys get press credentials? I feel like some pointed questions need to be asked at the next one if no changes are made to the offensive staff.

A journalist clearly communicates important information to the public. Part of the answer to “how did we get here” is that we don’t have a lot of journalists in our politics, but we still call them journalists and maintain the illusion. Access-driven reporting has killed journalism in America.

Max Kennerly@maxkennerly.bsky.social

Part of the answer to "how did we get here?" is that many major journalists—since 1998, Crawford has covered SCOTUS for PBS, ABC, and CBS—are lying bigots. Here Crawford is praising a guy who asked a dumb racist question, glitched out when asked why, then admitted he wanted a Christian theocracy.

The level of financial misalignment is as bad as I’ve been warning, and you’re going to see headline after headline of stuff I’ve said in the newsletter for years. I say this with both pride and sadness because being right is going to be many layers of horrible.

"Basically indistinguishable from literal sabotage" is this administration's general vibe.

Andrew Facini@andrewfacini.com

This will reduce potential sortie capacity something like 40% and put unexpected cycling strain on reactors which were not designed for it. Basically indistinguishable from literal sabotage, if you care about such things as readiness or reliability or lethality or whatever

Fuck the NYT and all the arrogant entitled little shits that work there.

Eric Lipton NYT@ericlipton.nytimes.com

One you might find surprising. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt & members of her team have been extremely helpful in responding to questions I raise. Regardless of public facing commentary, privately they are willing to engage and address questions. And I have appreciated that. Thank you

This is AIPAC. (::sigh::)

A dark money campaign is offering influencers $1,500 per post to attack Abdul El-Sayed and support Haley Stevens. Same exact dollar figure that was paid to attack @katmabu.bsky.social (Nobody ever found out who was paying for that campaign.) Gross, lazy and above all cynical shit.

“Nobody eats GDP” is a reality that Will Stancil has never, ever accepted.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

To quote a great economist, "nobody eats GDP." Money, securities, economic indicators, those things are proxies for the necessities and purposes of life and if you're going to think about economics or math you have to think about the utilitarian realities that exist behind those proxies.

Say you're a bush pilot flying food, clean water, and medicine to a remote town. One day, you decide you just don't feel like doing it. People in the town die because they didn't get meds in time. Are you responsible for those deaths? Bremmer says "obviously" no. I say obviously, undoubtedly, yes.

interesting to me that as the administration treats democratic-voting states like conquered or occupied territories, you don’t have pundits demanding the president respect “half the country”

The 25th Amendment is so, so fucking useless. The last 10-20 years have been a real stress test for our Constitution, and it’s failing badly.

This guy forgot to mention Pol Pot, Hitler, and Genghis Khan. Mamdani truly is a hypocrite for refusing to name them as war criminals. 🙃

Saddam killed 459.000 muslims but isn‘t a war criminal. The mudering mullahs killed about 159.000 men and women but aren‘t war criminals. Putin killed about 250.000 men but isn‘t a war criminal. Netanjahu is a jew, so he is a war criminal. That’s the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth.

I continue to be amazed/horrified/depressed at how common Underpants Gnome logic is amongst corporate leadership. There’s nothing there, but because they’re wealthy and in charge, well then they must have a secret plan. They don’t. They’re just underpants gnomes.

It's the take of a person who doesn't understand what desperation feels like, who has no skin in the game. The real issue with him has never been the charts or the metrics. The issue is his barely veiled contempt for people who aren't sitting where he sits. His privilege is baked into his POV.

The fact that these people are willing to sleep on fascists dismantling their democracy and killing people in the street, but have gone to war when a bunch of socialists have threatened their jobs is precisely why they must all be replaced.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

The vibes may be exciting, but if Democrats are going to win this year and in 2028, they must reject the DSA. If you’re tempted by a democratic socialist this year, think of what use Republicans will make of these victories, and ask whether you want to do favors for fascists.

Back in Ann Arbor, I used to wrangle teammates and/or roommates to come to Panchero’s and get the “El Gordo” burrito. We would heartily eat and enjoy them, and I would then say “and just like that we are all 2 pounds heavier now.” It was just a nice little bit of shame as a garnish. Good times.

I’m glad that the walls seem to be closing in on Andrew Tate, but it took criminal investigations across three countries, dozens of outspoken victims, and a hit TV show implying he drives boys to murder girls for this to happen—and he still hasn’t been convicted yet. This is why 98% get away with it

Think. It. Through. reposted

It truly is extraordinary to watch how any accusation of rape or sexual assault immediately is treated by our culture as an event requiring the protection, not of the victim's safety, but of the accused's reputation. Every accusation enters a workflow designed to negate the impact of the accusation.

I make $63k/year and my wife’s retirement gives us another $30k a year. We’re doing ok. A $50k lump sum would enable us to, say, pay off a huge portion of student debt, to the point that we would be able to actually afford lots of other things.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

Let's say your household makes 50k annually - you're at the 30th percentile. An additional 50k would jump to you to the 57th percentile, for ONE SINGLE YEAR. This is nice! It would help! But it would not, in most cases, transform your life. You're going from working-class to middle-class, briefly.

And as someone else pointed out, it’s a choice to *give up the $50k* in exchange for a coin flip. People’s risk tolerance can and should vary based on circumstances. Will is showing his trust fund roots here, as he clearly thinks $50k is chump change. Not all of us can afford to gamble, Will.

Hot take: this is human nature, and we all do this to some extent or another.

There's nothing to "join" in the Democratic Party. It's a brand with products I spend my vote on once a year at the democracy store. Most people's experience of it is an endless stream of texts that read like scams, their reward for donating or signing a petition. No wonder DSA is growing

Omar Wasow@owasow.bsky.social

Why has DSA grown? One argument from this research: not just ideology, but organization. Strong membership plus ongoing and continuous participation in social movements creates credibility, committed volunteers, political skills, and durable electoral capacity. www.niskanencenter.org/inside-the-d...

When guys are like “that’s not rape, all my friends have done that,” that’s exactly what we’re talking about. That’s the problem. Rape is so common and unpunished that a guy could casually reveal all his friends are rapists and not see it as a problem.

The answer to the question “how and why did this happen?” is steadily being answered with “all the people involved are awful and they made predictably awful decisions.” Dan Moraff didn’t see trouble with Graham Platner because Dan Moraff saw *himself* in Graham Platner.

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Alarming story that confirms my own reporting along similar lines: Dan Moraff, the political strategist who plucked Graham Platner out of obscurity to run for senate and barely vetted him, was barred from Rep. Summer Lee’s 2022 campaign after three complaints of sexual misconduct.
