We're becoming a pariah among all our former allies. Trump has destroyed all our relationships. He's not presidenting at all. He's just buddying up to our enemies, playing war without knowing how, a & tearing up DC as if it all belongs to him. Meanwhile, Americans are struggling. He doesn't care.

Yes never! The USA will never regain the soft power and influence it had over Europe for several decades. Europe has learned the hard way that USA can't be trusted. This isn't 'just' Trump. It's the entire US political system backed up by over 70 million voters.

Being a US ally has become too hazardous. As some EU politicians put it: we cannot rely on a handful of voters in Wisconsin every four year to decide our own national economic or military safety.

The best we can hope for is to re-emerge in time as a member of the group of democratic nations that have aligned themselves against autocracies like us. More likely the prop 2025 autocratic takeover will be completed shortly. Most of us are still too comfortable to really resist.

I’m not optimistic in the short term about rejoining Europe but when my generation is dead and gone, I think the young people will join with enthusiasm. We have screwed up the world and left a mess for them to clear up.

I happened to listen to German (English) news when I was up (too) early this morning here in Australia......... they were talking about Canada becoming an 'associate member' of the EU. They referred to the USA as a 'HOSTILE COUNTRY UNDER TRUMP'. This is how the rest of the world sees the USA now.

I like to think of what JFK said, the problems that we have are man-made therefore they can be solved by man.
