A disturbing and hypocritical ruling on so many levels. Especially the due process holding. The court JUST said there’s no deeply rooted right for women to control their own bodies. But there is a deeply rooted right for parents to know if their kids question their gender at school? Come on.

NEW at SCOTUS: the court votes 6-3 to block a California law preventing public schools from outing gender-questioning students to their parents.

saw someone on Facebook earlier saying "ABOUT TIME!!! KIDS DON'T BELONG TO THE SCHOOLS OR THE GOVERNMENT!!!" ma'am, they're people, not property, they don't "belong" to anybody. parenting is caretaking, not ownership.

Seems to follow a type of logic to me. Both treat women and children as property of men. Which is right in line with the way right wing people want the world to be.

Yeah my sense of it is that the Florida ruling is correct but this is obviously wrong in light of that. What’s good for the goose ain’t apparently good for the gander anymore

I do think it’s ideologically consistent. In both cases they hold that people higher up the hierarchy (men, parents) have supreme authority over their subordinates. It’s utterly fucked up, but it is consistent.

Reading between the lines of majority on the parents' treatment of their trans kids is appalling. "The parents were not initially told that their kids were trans. But when they found out they were so abusive about it that the kids wanted to kill themselves. The kids were hospitalized many times."

The court is has basically given up any integrity it may have had - it is a puppet court for the oligarch's and hopefully there will be changes. Term limits, no taking pay-off (a la Thomas), no having your debt paid off (Kavanaugh), no severely unqualified appointees (Barrett).

This is actually a consistent ruling if you look at it with the belief that women and children are property of men. It fucking sucks that anyone in this day & age would think like that, but it does explain these rulings.

The underlying unstated logic is consistent fwiw. “These groups are property of cishet, white men whose job it is to enforce white supremacist, patriarchal, conservative Christianity.” They’d never outright say that of course but when the framework fits…

But they're only property of the cishet, Christian men who agree with them. That's the point; the parents of the trans kids in red states aren't allowed this decision.
