just heartbreaking stuff Alex Pretti's mother calls out ICE and the Trump administration for killing her son and smearing his name, and calls for justice to be done.

Florida early voting update: Early in-person turnout among Republicans has fallen off a cliff. At R+0.4, the total early vote in the state is about as blue as 2018, 5 points higher than this point in 2022, and 10 points higher than in 2024. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-early...

This is correct, but its also important to note that some portion of these loans are technically "unsecured" personal loans (e.g., the stock is not formally put up as loan collateral). This is important because lawmakers need to consider this fact when closing the loophole.

The Iranian regime could ultimately fall if a devastating direct strike on its leadership is paired with military measures never used before. Past operations already set a precedent for this kind of strike.

It’s late October. People are voting right now. If you cannot deliver a convincing, full throated endorsement of the Democratic nominee in the potentially deciding race for the Senate, stay the fuck off television

Will is right here, but we Chicagoans did our part too. Operation Midway Blitz was also a callosal failure.

I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

David DeWitt@daviddewitt.bsky.social

Ohio candidate for governor Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is attempting to reframe his controversial ad featuring Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother as protestors have started gathering at his events. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/10/25/r...

OMG

Kirsten Bladh@kerstanley.bsky.social

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

Michael Anderson reposted

Wow

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements. "A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party."

Good!

NEWS --> Dems are planning novel ways to wield power of the purse against Trump's corrupt prosecutions of critics like Ilhan Omar if they win House. Reps Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin tell me a range of aggressive tactics will be deployed. Details in my new piece: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

Useful context regrading Meta and Brazil

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

Bracketing everything else about social media policy and tech billionaires etc., and of course there are plenty of other reasons to hate Zuckerberg, but the specific claims about Meta deliberately suppressing Lula supporters in Brazil seem very thin and unsubstantiated when you get into the details.

So I don't want to oversell this but our 2024 EV percentage after day 2 was R+2.5. Right now it's D+17.7 So a 20 point swing in the largest suburban county in the country that had resisted some previous blue waves.

Like many others I assumed this was funny hyperbole -- "call in the national guard!" type of thing -- but no it's a description of events.

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

This is one step away from the EY nonsense that the super smart AI will be able to social engineer its way into any hardened system, and I think that is the height of ridiculousness.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

This is the thing that scares me most about AI - the impossibility of stopping them from communicating with each other. Once the brain in the box gets clever enough, literally any interface with the outside world can become a potential communication vector. That includes us.

A service that is doing this is not going to back Trump in a military coup attempt.

marine corps boards crossing out their instructions "expel trans marines" and writing in "we keep this trans marine" is, frankly, a great example of what it means that a society is more than just its government

On thing this should make clear is how the sports framing is really a trap/quagmire. Hamilton came out relatively negative on that question, but his stance here is the good stuff and ultimately what really matters.

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

The ridiculous part of this whole thing is you just literally need to tell your voters to vote both Dan Sullivans over Petola and the inclusion of the "wrong" one is irrelevant

in a dark sort of irony, this too is gender: we displace agency from men onto women as a way of excusing their abuse—what did you say to make him hit you? likewise, the (male-coded) political right is always understood as being provoked by the (female & queer-coded) left

As much as I think the most extreme scenarios for post nov. Are unlikely to come about, Andy os very much correct here about what needs to happen to restore deterrence.

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.
