My main takeaway from the Jack Smith testimony: we should push our presidential candidate to make him Attorney General in 2029.

I'm 5 hours in and haven't learned much of anything except Republicans are still fuming about their phone numbers showing up as having called/received. They are so defensive it makes me wonder if they are also guilty of being part of the insurrection plan... Perhaps another investigation is needed.

My takeaway is how telling it is that the transcript gets released ahead of New Year weekend. I thought they were going to expose Jack Smith & exonerate Trump. Why hide it?

So anxious to see what Jack Smith is going to take on now that he has his own Law Firm with outstanding Law partners. He can take on anyone that got "cruelly scorned" by Trump!

Jack Smith prosecuted war criminals at The Hague before coming to the DOJ. The man’s an absolute hammer. Cool headed and unflinching. We need relentless people willing to do the work. Smith is solid and strong and knows how to play the long game.

We watched the whole testimony today. My take was that he's incredibly honest and ethical with the brains to go with it. You're right he would make a great Attorney General.

no defensive shouty tirades Patel, Hegsth, Bondi should watch how people like Smith on top of their gig conduct themselves with the confidence of capability & truth on their side Then watch themselves... If there isn't an epiphany they are beyond help

Thinking the same thing! No pushing, please. Take it to our new president. [Still puzzled why Jack did not pursue the venue of Dist. Court for the Dist. of Columbia? We never would have known Judge Cannon.

I disagree. Jack Smith should replace any Trump-appointed member of the Supreme Court, then replace them all with progressive woke-as-F liberals!! We we’ll need to amend the Constitution to take back our freedoms from these criminal fascists. 🤯

I'd like to see him finish the investigation/prosecution against DJT first. He got it started and ran it very well, from what I've seen, I'll bet he'd like to see it out to the end. Definitely SCOTUS afterward though.

We should. But it will rub a raw wound, and set the new administration up for even more vehement opposition. What we need is a Truth and Reconciliation tribunal. These people won't just vanish.

The balance required to rebuke the GOP attacks while not discussing details of the classified documents case was masterfully responded to by Jack Smith. Like the House J6 Committee, he developed proof by using Republican testimony for evidence. Only the election thwarted trial and conviction.

Sort of agree? He seems to be really great man imo, But, hold up a sec, we want justice for EVERYTHING (especially the war crimes) but please let the whole future cabinet be ready and able to swiftly hand down just punishments and REFORMS that deter the injustices, corruption, and traitorous greed

Merrick Garland was the wrong man at the wrong time, and we may never recover from his time as A.G.. He had one really, really important task, and it wasn't to facilitate the harassment of Hunter Biden.

Garland searched Mar a Lago, indicted and arrested Trump twice, and had two trials scheduled well before the election. SCOTUS stopped them. Where Garland failed was not firing the trump DBI holdovers that hamstrung him quickly enough. He wanted to follow “norms” about that.

Garland named a special prosecutor 23 months after becoming AG. I believe we had one democrat in congress calling for special prosecutors in 2021. I don't believe Garland would have named Smith without threats from Americans like me. Garland shouold have been prosecuted for aiding and abetting.

Things also got out of whack, or call it reasonableness, when RBG did not resign and give Obama a chance to replace her.

I think you are right about the charges. I think the other mistake was treating Trump like a white collar criminal instead of a mobster. Garland should have moved to revoke his bond and lock him up for every violation. Make the judges decide to keep him out.

They were waiting on a SCOTUS decision about venue. Trump would have moved to dismiss a case filed in DC . Smith didn’t want to incur the risk that SCOTUS would issue a decision requiring dismissal or moving the case to Cannon’s district and having to start all over.

Had democrats wanted Trump prosecuted, they would not have nominated Garland, they would have nominated a junkyard dog like Holder or Lynch. Pelosi on repeat, "we need to move on", "republicans will retaliate". Republicans always retaliate, give them a real reason to retaliate.

No. They didn’t. If Garland was working with the heritage foundation he wouldn’t have searched Mar a Lago or indicted Trump twice. It was SCOTUS that stopped the trials. And they DEFINITELY work with Heritage.

Robert Mueller left Garland a roadmap for at least 4 indictments for felony obstruction of justice. I'll never understand why they were not pursued at all, much less on day one...

I actually thought the opposite - that the qualities that might have made him a good SC justice probably made him a BAD choice for AG.

But do people really think Democrats will really get their day in the sun? By that I mean, will they ever win an election again and THEN successfully charge, prosecute and sentence Herr Dump?? He’ll die of natural causes before all of that. Lets face it, Dump totally got away with it. The Dems /1

- are left as the losers who got outwitted by the dumbest, worst and most unethical president ever to run in America. For me, the embarrassment would be too great. People say its the Republicans who need to fold: What about Democrats?? They also need to fold. Dump’s legacy is a true stain on America

Newsom is too problematic. Major failures in CA (homeless crisis, energy/PUC, restaurant scandal during COVID, trans betrayal, etc.) Too many skeletons, liberal lightening rod, & his relation to Nancy Pelosi will drag him under. I support a lot of what he's done, but even I know he can't win.

We need a presidential candidate that will promise to investigate and prosecute every last crime committed by the trump regime! Failing to act for fear of appearing political will be unacceptable!

& the fear of appearing 'goody two shoes' Dems is real but if they combine it with a visible understanding of how folks were duped, welcome them back into the tent Make sure the correction is aimed at the administration not humiliating its supporters they can carry the day without spite or backlash

Awesome. And after the Dem Congress and WH enlarge the Supreme Court in '29, a justice. The chief one, if the statute also includes a time limitation on the length of a chief justice's tenure as chief. We have his future planned out for him. Hope he likes it. bsky.app/profile/beve...

5/ key structural-economic issues. It's how we win both houses of Congress next year, and in '28 hold them, win the WH - and expand the Supreme Court. And after rereading parts of Trump v US recently, I think it actually lends itself to, yes, reinterpretation. Really. And, heck, a Dem-appointed ...

Right now I want him heading a task force in dc that has him arresting Trump, his administration, Supreme Court justices and congressional members under the rico act. This is all happening in DC so i need the mayor to be brave and do this under state law so it’s not a federal case

Nope, he is in the same class as Garland: honest, competent and thorough. What we need is a competent, Pam Bondi type.

Yes, Jack Smith would be an excellent choice for AG! However, our immediate emotional reaction is, “Yes! We’ll get those corrupt MFers from the Trump 2.0 administration!” Let’s be clear, Jack is perfect as he is non-political. As such, he will follow his own path, & you might not like that.

All the gung ho hoopla on this thread just makes me think, "Sure Jan." We have pro-Trump MSM, a pro-Trump SC, a pro-Trump Congress, a network of pro-Trump billionaires, R-wing voter suppression, possible rigging & a Dem party failing to do anything about any of it. Not a formula for success.

Not all Dems. We need to primary those who are too weak and replace them with strong Progressives willing to fight for our Democracy. There are some in Congress already but we need more, and get the weak spineless ones out of leadership.

I was wondering since he has spoke out loud of his beliefs - could he still prosecute this case? Would it be tainted for him to be a special counsel & continue? I am sincerely asking. Any one who can give input it’s a sincere question.

As much as I would love to see him suffer in a cold jail cell for all the years of pain he has caused… at this point a health crisis would be ok too. Just stop the madness.

He’s not been offering his biased personal opinions. He’s always been very careful to speak only to the facts he can back up. If he were unfit to prosecute as AG, he’d have been unfit to be special counsel before.

I loved watching him waiting patiently for the question whenever Jordan failed to pose one, almost as much as I enjoyed watching Pete Koski cover his six every once in a while. Can’t wait for you and Andy to cover it.

But first can someone tell me why 1. Merrick the arsehole Garland was appointed? 2. Why didn't Biden fire him when he was clearly incompetent? and when you do you will realize that the Dems will do bugger all if ever they get the chance to govern

Bad idea. It is not Smith's fault, but the political appearance of the former prosecutor of Trump succeeding Bondi is politically suggestive of continuity of the politics of vengeance at DOJ when the opposite is needed.

Someone else suggested having him as Deputy AG in charge of the investigation. That would probably be better anyway, as AG he'd have a lot of other responsibilities distracting from it. I'd love to see Harris as AG, but she has aspects of the same problem you suggest.
