“No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue,” Alan Garber, Harvard’s president, said about President Trump's demands. nyti.ms/4jzSS9W

🛑 This has never been the case and will never be. 📌 It is an illusion that the content of the curriculum does not depend on the political system, and therefore on the government. 😡 Trump mercilessly interfered in the peaceful life of universities. ‼️ Where were the universities before the elections?

Oh wow, Harvard found its spine just in time for a PR win. Brave move from the folks who charge $80K a year to teach moral superiority. Quick question tho would they still ‘resist’ if federal money actually got cut? Or do principles expire at the bank?

"No" can be the most powerful word in the English language, if you've got the courage to say it. We need more institutions and people saying "No" to the demands of the Republican Party in general and the Trump Administration in particular. Enough is enough.

President Garber has too much in common with President Trump. He ,and his immediate predecessors set the stage for this fiasco by setting aside not just the First Amendment, but Harvard's foundational Charter of 1650, and curtailing the participation of its alumni in its governance.

Ironically, notable former Yale Prof. Snyder wrote the famous book On Tyranny, but it’s looking like Yale’s preparing to obey in advance, which is quite depressing as a Yalie, but also cuz so many of our alumni’ve done so much harm—Vance, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Alito, Ramaswamy—we must redeem ourselves.

What are those of us with little to no power supposed to do, how are we supposed to feel, when the most powerful, wealthy, and influential organizations in our country are allowing themselves to be shaken down by a wanna be dictator who is a convicted felon and a rapist? Good job, Harvard. 🚫meta.

Harvard President Gerber's response is clear and defiant. This moment demands moral clarity. Every institution must show the same courage. Harvard has drawn a line - and others should follow.

Harvard shows more courage than these high-level law firms taking a knee. I applaud them for being courageous and fighting against these authoritarian measures. Be like Harvard!

Let me just say, SCOTUS didn't URGE this admin to return that man. They told him these actions are illegal, and he MUST return him. Attention to detail matters. What had happened to this institution of journalistic integrity? Controlled by the oligarchy, as well? Way to go HARVARD.

CBS stated that Harvard got $686m from the federal govt. in 2024. They do stand to lose something in this battle against the 🍊 Reign of Terror. I'm really hoping they will continue to retain their leadership position among universities for intellectual freedom. 🤞🏼✊🏼🦋

It's now or never Americans! If you don't stand up and fight against this regime, it's gonna be a very, very long time before we can bounce back, if ever. And no, I'm not being dramatic.

This is how it's done. Without DEI who are we as a nation? Without learned history, how do we course correct and move forward? We are a nation of immigrants and NO ONE MAN CAN CHANGE THAT FACT.

I had to sit thru a DEI lecture at work once, I found it completely insulting. The assumption was everyone in the audience needed to rid themselves of their racist and bigoted ways. In no way was I a racist or bigot.

Good for Harvard!!! If only otherAmerican Private/Public Universities and Colleges would have the interests of students and faculties in mind and fortitude to not capitulate to an Authoritarian/Theocratic Government and its dictator.

They have a 53 billion dollar endowment, I thought Lefty's believed in paying their fair share the colleges don't even pay taxes, you don't care it's just because it's anti-trump , either way America is finding out where their tax dollars are going and they ain't liking it

Good to see Harvard push back on the attack on academic freedom by this administration. Now is the time for universities to join forces and support each other, as well as other pilars of free and democratie societies and the international rule based order such as independent media and courts.
