Gov Sherrill: “We inherited an agreement where FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup. And while NJ TRANSIT is stuck with a $48 million bill to safely get fans to and from games, FIFA is making $11 billion.”

FIFA list of demands is INSANE: - Exempts of income tax on the event - Monopoly of advertisement, drinks, food and marketing products on site - No activity in stadium months before and after event - No other major event in town before and after world cup For Montreal alone it was more than 1B$

Any of these "world events" like FIFA wc, super bowl, Olympics where the host cities lose millions - are because the organizing committee are fraudulent. Am I wrong? The people pay exorbitant amounts. The sponsors too.

That's the FIFA model. Ripped us South Africans off in 2010. Left with billions and left a few million for our corrupt soccer administration - money which has of course vanished.

~30 billion in tourism / fan revenue for host countries. But ya sounds like FIFA typical corruption. Make up the difference by being the best host city ever!

I encourage all of my fellow Americans to Refuse to Attend any World Cup activities or matches…I also encourage all teams to boycott any matches that are scheduled on US fields…Shut it all down in the US…

This kind of messaging takes courage because it takes actual action and actual stating of a problem. But there are a lot of little problems that can be solved by actual attention to it. People have to be willing to name names and make them defend themselves. Not take their donations.

I hold no great love for FIFA but this is horseshit. These are events at a sports stadium. The ticket sales will generate sales tax, so will sales of food and drinks and merch, the salaries paid to stadium workers will generate state income taxes, hotels stays will generate taxes.

The MetLife stadium already exists, and already hosts large events, that pose the same problems of getting people to and from games. There is already a railway station, NJ Transit already owns rolling stock, and has staff. All of that can be put to use to get fans to and from the games

There are eight games at MetLife, including the final. How can they possibly cost $6m in additional operating cost per game to operate trains to and from these games? Some of those trains would run anyway! How can it be justifiable to charge the prices being discussed to football supporters alone?

It’s just bullshit. Allowing fans to get to and from the game by public transport is a basic public service, especially once you allow these giant out of town stadiums to be built. It’s not reasonable to gouge the fans, they had no part in the decisions that led to their being 8 games in New Jersey

Tell them that you changed your mind and attendees can pay regular fares plus a surge activity surcharge (hey, if rideshare can do it). If they don't like it they can sue. It's what their peace prize winner would do.

Just cancel the damn thing! Anything that has been negotiated with or by the felon pedo grifter has got to have something wrong or criminal involved. Just saying.

Here's an Idea. Charge for transportation. But before that can you explain why you thought you had to foot the bill? Do regular sports fans get free transport? Your state makes money from tourists not loses it. With the greatest respect, non of your whining makes any sense.

just cancel the whole thing. no thinking person should be going to this tournament while the US is playing the globe’s war-criminal standover merchant, and minorities are being disappeared from your streets to vile concentration camps and FIFA is synonymous with corruption

All these major international sporting events sure seem to be financial rackets that never end up working out for the locales they take place in, other than as a very temporary status symbol.

With 5-7 mil ppl expected to travel to multiple venues to see soccer games, the World Cup is expected to be the largest sporting event in history. That will stress the system more than an average NFL weekend. There will be overtime, extra security, extra clean ups, etc… Normal fares won’t cover it.
