I wrote about how the 2020 protests hurt Trump politically. I also wrote about how counternarratives about left-wing violence are just spin — and wildly at odds with the reality of extremist violence. Gift link: wapo.st/3SOEv6e

And it was already so bad: "White nationalists pervade law enforcement" "FBI warned of white supremacists in law enforcement 10 years ago. Has anything changed?" "Nazi ties to be erased "Cops Around The Country Posting Racist and Violent Facebook" "officers racist, sexist and homophobic text me

Unfortunately typical, with no charges: "officers burned a dog alive for no reason, then laughed as the dog’s owners cried" "inmate died after [skin melted off]. His guards won’t be charged." "officers discussing who will kill dogs before they even arrive" Laughing at not responding to 911 calls

This is a crisis of epistemology. A few of us know what they know because they have data and facts. But most Americans know what they know because someone told them a good story that resonated with them - even if it defies the data. That "knowledge" will withstand all data to the contrary.

The 'both sides' myth is the poster for AIPAC and lobby compromised politicians on both sides, to justify their bribes. I worry so many have no idea how democracy is literally circling the drain to collapse.

Good story but a not a good headline. Better to have been written in the positive, that mass protests will harm trump. At least eventually. *sigh* I won’t give up though

Saturday was cool for energizing people, but it doesn’t actually hurt Trump if everyone pats themselves on the back and goes home. Saturday was a call to action. A start, not an end goal. If you didn’t use Saturday as a networking opportunity to plan for the next action, it was worthless.

This data doesn't matter because the people convinced of the counternarratives are just going to insist that the reason the right wing violence is so much higher is that the researchers are labelling everything they don't like right wing, and they'll do this without even reading the article.

well already the news media itself ignores or redefines examples of left wing violence away. they always run cover for it in riots that they would go ballistic over if they were MAGA's. bias and corruption are rife. people's suspicions have been confirmed over and over.

sure. the riots is an obvious one...be it 2020, or 2025 etc. Luigi is an example...he's someone the press essentially played up as having a point. the Tesla arsons, and threats, harassment, or attacks. the recent harassment of Jews on college campuses. Josh Shapiro arson. other examples:

Fwiw, we looked into ADL's methodology in 2020, found the topline is correct — the vast majority of extremist violence is committed by the far-right — but overall numbers are inflated bc ADL counts all violence by extremists (e.g. a neo-Nazi meth dealer kills another Nazi) as "extremist violence."

businessinsider.comThe ADL's extremism statistics make it seem like ultraright-wing violence in the US is more common than it actually isThe Anti-Defamation League's statistics are widely cited, but much of the "extremist violence" in their data is not motivated by bigotry or politics.
