NEW: We obtained recordings of 160+ emergency calls made from or about an immigration detention center where three people died within six weeks.
“They will not give them medical treatment,” one caller said, seeking help for a detainee with kidney stones.
🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: After 40 years of research, Brazilian scientist Dr. Mariangela Hungria wins the World Food Prize for pioneering a $2 nitrogen-fixing bacteria treatment that replaces costly fertilizers, saves farmers $25 billion annually, and cuts 230 million tons of CO₂ emissions.
Bay Area friends: A friend found these small kittens behind a gas station and we've been trying to find them a home for almost two months. For now, they live in a small bathroom. Would you consider adopting? They are vaxxed, neutered, and incredibly affectionate. Please help!
More women have nearly bled to death during miscarriage under Texas’ abortion ban.
Experts say the trend paints a troubling picture of the harms of unnecessary delays in care. “This is striking,” one doctor said. “The trend is very clear.”

The politics of the future is a war against billionaires—and it's a war the billionaires started.
Their campaign to destroy American democracy is an early phase of a sinister cult vision to tyrannize the future.

Ignorance of history may be a big factor for anti-vaxxers. Try doing some genealogical research ("had 7 children; 3 survived). Or just read @tomlevenson.bsky.social's A Pox on Fools.

Q: The shock gloves that ICE is reportedly rolling out using the deescalation funding. Is that the sort of use you envisioned when you passed that bill?
SUSAN COLLINS: It's not
According to Trump-we can’t pay for SNAP benefits to feed hungry kids
Or lower the cost of housing
Or help people keep their health insurance
But we CAN spend billions on purposeless and unwanted steam catapults for our Navy
In every way
Literally
Morally
Metaphorically

This is absolutely ridiculous. For all its potential pitfalls, the Ford aircraft carriers are built entirely around the EMALS system, and "replacing" it with steam catapults - which require large amounts of space and personnel - is simply not a realistic option. www.wsj.com/us-news/trum...
there's some Glonzo risk here but "why isn't Trump doing the thing that people would want but which is probably logistically and politically impossible" is a good line of attack to run with
Apple: ~$2.2 billion
Nike: $986 million
FedEx: ~$800 million
Amazon: $640 million
General Motors: $500 million
Giant corporations are raking in millions in tariff refunds and getting even richer.
But remember: corporations passed tariff costs on to you.
Where's YOUR refund?
Yeah that’s the other thing: my professional, informed opinion is that antisemitism is everywhere and we have to understand it in order to understand our world
It affects everybody. And it directly informs other bigotries in ways that are actively being suppressed

Right wingers: “I hate American cities, the labor movement, most of the constitutional amendments, funding public schools, funding the VA, the voting rights of women and non-white people,….”
PSA: “Why is the left ceding patriotism to the right?”
worth highlighting here is that trump apparently believes the genuinely insane theory that russia couldn't taken ukraine in a day, except they drove their tanks into mud by mistake

Why are we investigating whether Tulsi was controlled by a cult AFTER she's done DNI-ing, when it was pretty clear she was controlled by a cult before she was confirmed?
the short term approach will be to feed more real time stuff into them from the same data sources people use to stay up to date: chats, emails, meetings, notes, docs of all kinds, existing code. I don’t think context window is a problem because you can run a hierarchy of agents just like people
they're deploying national guard around the reflecting pool in order to stop people from drinking its cool sweet green waters. but americans are a people of indefatigable spirit and verve

tired of the "#1 dad" nonsense. if you're a dad, stop treating it like a joke and post your actual national dad ranking. i'm # 492,018, which is actually really high up there, but more importantly it lets me enter ranked dad lobbies where i can get matched up for fistfights with dads of my caliber
I had strong priors against LLMs for medicine. There are a lot of doctors in my family and I grew up viewing doctors as careful, skilled professionals. I had plenty of bad medical experiences, but I thought it would be hard to do better.
Then an LLM found a cure for my 2 decade chronic condition...
92% of Israelis believe that Iran has won the war, and that the MoU Trump signed was little more than an act of capitulation. They are also now convinced that the entire war as launched by Netanyahu was an act of foolishness. www.timesofisrael.com/poll-92-of-i...
This puritanical pixie is working my last nerve with his shameless lies to suck-up to Donald Trump.
Barack Obama not only got Iran to the negotiating table—he got a deal. And a much more favorable deal for the United States than the total capitulation Donald Trump just embarrassed himself with.
This November, and in November 2028, everyone is either voting for the Democrat or enabling fascism. Those are the only two choices. We really, truly are voting blue *no matter who.*

Over 17,000 kids in Maryland have lost SNAP assistance due to cuts in what Trump & Republicans call their "Big, Beautiful Bill." While it may be beautiful for the billionaires enjoying record tax cuts, kids are going hungry to save those billionaires money. Shameful.

Notice that Dem primary voting in TX is much more predictable based on geography than GOP primary voting.
Racial demographics structure Dem primaries & Americans are geographically segregated by race, so...
This is something Gall Sigler & I wrote about in the paper flagged 👇.
Curious about the role of ideology in primaries?
G Sigler & I published in @polbehavior.bsky.social using survey data & precinct-level results to examine the role of ideology in primary voting.
Ideology clearly shapes voting, but successful candidates build cross-bloc coalitions.

Go ahead and slam journalists when they deserve it. I certainly do. But also realize that New York Times journalists Declan Walsh and Arlette Bashizi willingly traveled to an Ebola ward in the Democratic Republic of Congo in order to inform the world. Many journalists are heroes. (NYT gift link)
Abjection is the core fear of what we used to call neoreaction which is the ideology of the tech right (ethical altruism is actually a liberal heresy of neoreaction or vice versa)
Ben Meiselas on Jared and Ivanka's attempt to take over an uninhabited island in Albania: It used to be a closed off military area under the old communist government. It has kind of a very creepy underground tunnel system... No wonder the Epstein class wants to build out on this island.
The message couldn't be clearer: if you're not the "right" kind of religious, you don't count.
A military that serves all Americans shouldn't be in the business of deciding which beliefs are worthy of recognition.
Pete Hegseth just slashed the military's list of religious identities from 200+ options to 31.
Gone? Humanist, Atheist, Pagan, and dozens of Christian denominations.
There's no reason for this. It's pure sabotage.
