This is last April and tariffs all over again. Trump doesn’t have the minerals to take the market reaction to an invasion of Greenland. But the market knows that and therefore doesn’t collapse on incremental signals he is moving that way. It’s a pickle!

The way to end all this is for the EU to immediately get hyper-aggressive with sanctioning and tariffing every American they can find. The man has worse approvals than at any point in his prior term plus it’s an election year. It’s all a bluff. Call it!

Yes, because J6ers were overwhelmingly people who had the money to travel to DC and put themselves up for several days in a metro area where hotel rooms can cost $200 a night. They are not representative of the majority of Trump voters.

I'm not saying there are literally none. Just that your average hardcore MAGAt is far less likely to be interested in international travel than your average hardcore liberal. And there is data to back that up.

That's wildly incorrect. The EU can and should use economic leverage against the US, but doing so will cause Europeans a lot of pain too.

To everyone replying to complain about the EU not doing anything, thanks, gosh, I wasn’t aware of the last quarter century or so of EU politics, thank you for this new info. But a bet against the EU’s ability to sustain itself against all odds has been a VERY poor one over the past 20 years.

few things get BSkyers ranting more than Europe, including a lot of Europeans themselves. genuinely quite funny when you can take a more objective stance and assess new information at the margin as it comes in, which is what you're doing of course 😀 if only some others could control themselves...

EU should also focus heavily on individuals and corporations that are most fiercely enabling and caving to Trump. Hurt the techbro oligarchs, certain energy companies, the crypto folks. Immediate and harshly. Revoke visas of specific individuals even. They need to feel it. Bigly.

All teams opposing the US in the World Cup are going to play with such vitriol. It should be our arrival as legit contenders, but Trump is creating a situation in which we will be utterly despised, thence demolished under a wave of anti-American hatred.

I’ve been saying since Trump was inaugurated the first time that people needed to tell him to fuck off. They keep acting like he’s a rational human being when both he and Stephen Miller are lunatics. Trump believes in tariffs because he views himself as a modern day Rockefeller or J.P. Morgan.
