I'm a free information radical. I have spent most of my career publishing open-source code and building open-information systems. I grew up getting access to knowledge that I never would've otherwise had because of the Internet. The past 5 years have accelerated it. I think the future is bright.

Ummm….stealing IP is wrong, no different than stealing anything else. Right now the tech barons are trying to convert the largest theft of IP in history into trillions for themselves.

Amazing the overlap between the "RIAA and MPAA are evil. Free Aaron Swartz. Information wants to be free. Download Limewire" etc people, and the new "Piracy is theft. Copyright violaters should be imprisoned" groups.

(Just your old school communist reminding you private property is still the root of inequality and injustice, bending the knee to capitalism for crumbs will never set you free)

Yeah I get it. But since we live in a capitalist society I’d rather the actual creators get paid rather than the tech billionaires

It's pretty obviously different since "copying" doesn't deprive the original possessor of the information. That doesn't strictly imply "good", but it's far from "no different".

Did you access any knowledge about the climate? Just wondering because I would suggest that making big statements about the future while not mentioning it makes you look extremely silly.

It feels like things are going to necessarily be either way better or way worse in the future and staying at the current level of goodness isn't really an option so. I really really hope.

I'm rather confident it will be bright; either because the future will be a better place or because it's burning 🔥 🤭

Same story here. A lot of what I know came from people who published their code and notes for free. Shipping things in the open is the least I can do to pay that back.
