This is seriously tan suit-level of scandal shit

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Everyone should read these threads I did about industry lobbyists and the EPA and understand them. Take the time to see the unambiguous evidence of what's happening now at this moment inside the EPA. Please retweet them. Please read them. Each one of the threads. It's happening in slow motion.

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee). But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention.

George Saunders and the rest of the creative team take a bow for the triumphant premiere of Lincoln in the Bardo opera at the Met. Highly endorse seeing it, especially if you are a Saunders fan

DO IT, @aoc!!! (if you decide not to run for even higher office, of course, but I greedily want you as my senator)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t yet decided whether she’ll challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for his seat in 2028. One thing is clear: She has a big cash advantage.

Too lazy to post my own thread so please read this. I think I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning, but I’m old and memory fails.

I just posted a whole thread about why you should subscribe to @hellgatenyc.com immediately, but here's the TL;DR: We're fun, brave, independent. We've been covering the BK Dems, NYC courts & judges like crazy. We'll keep covering NYC like this JUST FOR YOU. This week is our most generous sale ever:

Excellent production of Macbeth at the Met Opera (not Verdi's strongest, but good transition from his early to middle period). As usual, top notch singing from Kelsey, Davidsen, and Speedo Green and magnificent orchestra work. Staging was grim but appropriate, with only a couple of odd decisions

The staging with the omnipresent witches was outstanding; it was chilling at some points. I think the scene where they crawled out of Lady Macbeth's bed will stick with me for a while.

One of the first albums I bought with my own money (when it first came out!!!) and I don't think I've stopped hearing it in my head since then.

Stevie Wonder’s ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ came out 50 years ago today. An anniversary tour celebrating the double album masterpiece begins next month, and today Wonder shared four previously unreleased tracks from the sessions. stereogum.com/2512942/stev...

I can’t decide if people who assert that contemporary AIs can think or are conscious do so out of fear or out of envy. But I can say that any such people do so either out of emotion or perhaps driven by some pecuniary interest in it being true, not from any fully informed or defensible position.

AITA? my roommate (4 month old F) just shit herself then just sat there in it & smiled at me (30’s F) instead of cleaning herself. when i went to help her clean it, she cried & screamed at me. i assumed she didn’t want to sleep with shit in her pants so i thought i was helping but am i the asshole?

Saw The Cherry Orchard at the Park Avenue Armory tonight. Excellent production and translated well to South Korea context

It’s important to remember that Hasan Piker isn’t in the business of getting people elected, or in the business of politics in general, he’s in the Hasan Piker business and that stock goes up whenever he does something that makes people talk about Hasan Piker

After spending the entire breaking out in laughter every time I thought about the Kash Patel Senate hearing on the FBI hiring policy concerning bestiality, I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe he doesn’t know what the term means.

Here's a gift link to my 9/11 essay in the NYT. Civil libertarians long warned that before giving government new powers, we should consider how an administration with authoritarian ambition might abuse them. We were told that America was too exceptional to elect such a person. Well here we are.

The idea that classrooms are chiefly spaces for product testing, and that it is irresponsible pedagogy not to enforce this, is both cynical and vile, and “fuck off” is a cogent response from any professional educator to any non-teaching salescreep or tech-but-not-subject-matter expert who voices it.

It’s worse than this. Having been in the room with many of them (long ago, before I knew they were psychopaths), the tycoons who are left running the industry have an active contempt for ordinary people, including their own workers. They actively want to oppress, control and punish them.
