Thinking about how much public perception of AI is probably downstream of the ridiculous beclownment of NFT just a couple years prior, by what culturally feels like the same gaggle of zero-value-add meme-surfing scamlords.

You'll notice that I am very carefully riding the line in NOT saying AI is the same as NFT. It's just not. But the vibes, man. The chucklefuck barnacles. The ostentatious proclamations trespassing even a toddler's understanding. Excluding these people from the vibes is gonna need to be a Project.

It demonstrably isn't the same thing, it's worse in a lot of ways, but to people paying attention it is also the same cast of characters.

normie people's faith in tech has been eroding for a while, NFTs were a stop on that trip one thing's different though; so many people I talk to (including myself, an IT person) gave AI a genuine shot and it didn't pass the first-impression test for so many people because it sucks

Whatever value there is in everything AI, ML, LLM, mesmerbot, and all will not be statistically significant compared to the waste and damage inflicted on business and markets by ever larger models trained on normalized garbage.

I like the "AI is going to destroy all the jobs now" discourse being combined with complete apathy. Like, you know when this happens in history people get VERY bloody very fast right? And then theres the folks happy about it. Im not sure why they assume people wont start raging

The companies involved in AI and their questionable relationships bound together with what seems likely to end up playing out like a Ponzi scheme definitely reminds one of NFTs regardless of what you may feel about the utility of LLMs.

We will eventually get to a point where the capabilities of these tools are known and appropriate use cases are formalized but until that moment Sweet Merciful Fuck these people are some of the most anti-social, insufferable assholes imaginable and giving them Infinite Money is not helping things.

At least NFT's didn't make everything I do with a computer worse. A handful of games and stuff pushed it, but it was really pretty low impact. Google Sheets wasn't badgering me to make NFTs of B13 every time I tried to work, and googling how to turn that off didn't present NFT's of search results.

The NFT hangover is real. Same pitch deck energy went from "everything should be a token" to "everything should be an agent" in 18 months. The tech is genuinely different but the carnival barkers wearing the same outfit makes it near impossible for normal people to tell.
