My biggest new hobby this October was Coughing. I've become really good at Coughing, but I've decided it's a much worse hobby than basketball. Soon I will trade Coughing for basketball.

Yup same exact play. After Obergefell public perception on LGBT people shifted and conservatives were suddenly too weak to attack them as a full group. So what's the play when that happens? Divide and conquer. Split the group and attack the smaller/weaker half bsky.app/profile/gray...

They came for trans people at the same time as illegal immigrants and now they're moving on to other queer folk.

Consumers are *really* bad at expressing their economic well-being, it's basically just whatever pump prices are. Which is why maximizing EV share of the vehicle fleet is so important for breaking the carbon political economy in the US. Any other solution is doomed.

Based on what I am seeing now, I am officially concerned. And I'm not the only one: One federal scientist recently reflected that in their view we've entered "If you see something, say something" territory. I fully agree, and this month's data provides further evidence.

Hey California: vote NO on Prop 39. It’s a Republican Trojan Horse bill intended to disenfranchise millions of voters, with costly and unnecessary barriers to voting. Don’t let these bastards do this.

Dr. Oz is on my flight right now. He is sitting in the very first seat, front row. I saw him get on the plane. So when I stepped off the jetway onto the plane I approached him and put my hand out. What the man in charge of healthcare for the people on the very margins of society said…was revealing

This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it. It was effectively banned as it never aired again. I wonder why. MEDIA-OPOLY

Since the genocide began, artists have spoken up, donated, worn buttons, but what Macklemore is doing is forcing a much higher stakes conversation that pushes beyond comfortable solidarity and instead demands of artists to consider what they are actually to give up for their values.

A frog walks into a bank. It hops up in front of the teller and says "Hi, I'd like to get a loan please." The teller is understandably surprised at this, but maintains her professional demeanor. "OK, how much?" "$50000 please." "OK. First I'll need your name."

This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

There’s an aggressively paid for influence op going on right now to defend AI slop as art and protected speech across platforms. AI execs realize they have a problem and don’t wanna get Marie Antoinette’d. The free ChatGPT trip is the tip of the iceberg. First person to nail it down gets a Pulitzer.

I hate that this kind of ankle-biting is necessary, but it would go a long way for even a single Democrat who was instrumental in letting them off the hook five years ago (Biden? Harris? Garland? Coons? Pelosi?) to admit that they fucked up, their critics were correct, it can’t happen again.

The solution is consequences, by the way. And that doesn’t mean “losing elections” or “public ridicule.” Consequences that are real, that wrongdoers and liars know could happen to them, that bad men genuinely fear facing
