Somewhere in a sweltering desert, cockroaches scurry around the cell of Carlitos Ricardo Parias. He holds up a plastic bottle, gazing at the worm-like creatures swimming in his water. His other arm is turning purple from a gunshot wound for which he says he hasn’t received proper medical care.

In our Democratic Presidential primary, each candidate should add to their platform that ICE will be changing their focus to lock up MAGAts who voted for Trump after J6 and will be detained in the same gulags.

The ultimate irony of the digital age: we’ve built a global nervous system of fiber optics and satellites, yet the most visceral human experiences still happen in a room with a plastic bottle and some bugs. Hardware is everything.

His gulag isn’t in a distant Soviet or banana republic. It’s about an hour and a half from Disneyland, in a small California town called Adelanto. After ICE officers shot and detained Parias last October, the Los Angeles-based journalist will cross 300 days in ICE detention on Monday.

His horrifying conditions aren’t unique among immigrant detainees, but Parias’s case is extraordinary. Perhaps no journalist has endured such a sustained sequence of violence, prosecution, and imprisonment at the hands of the U.S. government.

He was already prolific on social media when the immigration enforcement surge began last summer. He worked independently as Richard Noticias LA, with over 100,000 followers on TikTok. He built that audience by chasing crime stories across California neighborhoods often overlooked by larger outlets.

Even in detention, Parias remains a journalist. He began reporting on the horrid conditions that he and other detainees endure. Through video recorded by his visitors and accounts relayed to other reporters, Parias exposed the worm-like creatures in drinking water and roaches in the cells.

One where the United States backed banana companies (like Dole or United Fruit) had more power than the government and ran the country to maximize their profit.

Meanwhile Private Prisons are receiving raking in hundreds of millions of our tax dollars in contracts. And reaping massive profits (some of which no doubt benefits our President, who has purchased their stock).

Bush created this framework of indefinite detention w/out trial & Obama kept it out the headlines, so idk why we protest Trump & not New World Order. The president is a puppet straw man. So long as we ignore the corrupt system & target only those exploiting it, we stay vulnerable for worse to come.

No. Dehumanizing them removes their accountability. They are human. They are choosing in line with their values, as abhorrent as those values are to you and me. They must be held responsible, as humans who could have chosen differently. Justice demands it.

Sounds like he has septicemia and if transferred to a hospital yesterday he may have hours left to live. It is rumored that Death Camps make such transfers to decrease the number of deaths on their watch. Most likely he will be transferred in time to be DOA. #MURDER, Inc, subsidiary Trump, Inc.
