In an interview with The i Paper, shadow housing secretary Katie Lam, who voted Leave in 2016, rejected the prospect of Britain rejoining the EU. Read more: trib.al/VYQTH5y

"Only" a decade ago!? We have general elections every 5 years. Is she proposing we extend that to say 15 years? She'd be happy with that??

A referendum is a decision, not a life sentence. In 2016 voters chose Brexit; they didn’t vote to surrender the right of future generations to reconsider it. If the consequences have proved damaging, as they have, democracy demands the freedom to debate, vote again, & potentially change course.

Looking for an argument to support remaining out of the EU and failing miserably. 1. Un democratic my arse having a fresh referendum is the most democratic thing you can do. 2. The referendum to leave was advisory only & nonbinding so the decision is not irreversible if a majority vote against it.

3. What is un democratic is a party committed to ignoring the will of the people and continuing to exploit and abuse them. 4. What is un democratic is a party committed to taxing the poor to give tax breaks to the well off.

What is disingenuous is to 1. ignore the fact our current mess was brought about by the conservatives. 2. Pretend you are going to fix it all when you already has 14 years in power and did none of these things. There is nothing new coming from this Conservative Party

So the Conservative party wrote a vague referendum leading to marginal victory for the less honest side of their party, and they want that to be treated as binding for some amount of time also not specified in the legislation? No thanks.

We want the Brexit we voted for, that Leave promised, where we opt out of the ECHR and all regulations, continue to enjoy free trade and free movement, trade with other countries on better terms than the EU gets, while excluding anyone brown. I have no idea why politicians refuse to do this.

Typical Tory. Listing a whole host of irrelevancies then crying undemocratic because all the current polls are against her. A nonbinding vote won by a fraction in a fugg of lies and false promises. The country not consulted further but a total exodus bludgeoned through. Undemocratic is right.

An advisory referendum, sold on the premise that little would change somehow became a hard Brexit! Cons weaponised the result to serve themselves & their paymasters. Tore the country & their own party to smithereens, yet questioning the consequences is somehow taboo! Charlatans the lot of them!

"undemocratic" 🤣 Sure Katie giving people a chance to vote on something that on average they now see demonstrably different than 10 years ago is 'undemocratic'. Go on throw your brexity toys out of the pram. Your brexit arguments sucked. get over it.

Just saw Griffith spout what the Tories would put in their manifesto. More money for the wealthy. I disagree with all of it.

So that would be appalingly undemocratic, would it? Looks like Katie Lam and her fellow current Tories, including David Davis, should listen to the wise words of 2012 David Davis: “If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy".
