Queue Jumper from the EU Squalid Chapter.
Love orange but not the orange faced felon with the tiny groping hands.
Once quoted by famous political analyst & commentator @glooface.bsky.social
"The wheels came off British trade because of Brexit. We MUST fix it. Put the wheels back on, you say? No, that would be looking backwards. Rule 1 of Brexit, never look backwards, only forwards. Why don't we, hear me out, REINVENT the wheel instead? Here, let me show you this promising alternative"
It is not just that this is only 0.2% of what UK consumers spend on food and drink a year, there is zero guarantee UK consumers actually will benefit at all. It is food & drink retailers who will benefit from this cut in import tariffs. And if they pass this cut on to customers remains to be seen.
Really pleased Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or. He has got to be one of the nicest guys in top flight football nowadays. And he more than deserved it based on his achievements last year.
So here it is, why Made in Europe and the general air of major power coercion are key to Andy Burnham's rejoin and free movement talk. A world about as far as possible away from the Brexit vision as it could be - and an incentive for the pro-EU side. rejoinrejoin.substack.com/p/made-in-eu...
The Democrats routing Trump would make then a party of past grievances rather than forward-looking optimism. They could have been better off losing this one to Trump than defeating him comprehensively, opines Justin Webb of the BBC
I am starting to think maybe communism wasn't such a bad thing after all.
And yes, I do know about Stalin and his gulags and how he used the NKVD to terrorize the population into submission. This is sarcasm, but fact is the power of the billionaires / trillionaire needs to be curtailed.
House Dems Report: “A growing body of evidence demonstrates Trump was an active participant in Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the 1990s. The DOJ & FBI are doing everything they can to keep the 🇺🇸 people in the dark about it.”

Obviously this is outrageous in terms of partiality.
But it's also yet another argument against rolling news. Rolling news has *so much* time to fill. Things like this must be a godsend for producers but it's really unhealthy for our discourse.
If the BBC has to make cuts, it should bin News 24.
BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet.
WHY
Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth.
Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why.

If the UK and France can't or won't hold the line against a Victor Orban Secretary-General bid, they should give up their Permanent Seats on the Security Council.
No shame in no longer being globally relevant, but if it really has gotten that bad it would be humiliating to keep pretending.
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
To everyone getting their knickers in a twist…
All because @andyburnham.bsky.social suggested a sensible conversation about freedom of movement
…do you perhaps need reminding of this?
Trump, "I'm not in love with Norway. Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a sh*thouse country"
My view:
That is the language of a president throwing a tantrum because Norway didn’t give him the Nobel Peace Prize.
BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet.

This really is so clear and obvious nowadays, you have to wonder when Westminster will finally be able to admit this instead of mumbling about immigration and an economic hit.
“While each of us (voted Brexit) for different reasons, we all believed that the UK could do a better job of running its own affairs than *unelected officials* in Brussels could."
Ben Houchen... November 2020
Six years later

Since his ennoblement in Boris Johnson’s 2023 resignation list, Tees Valley regional mayor Lord (Ben) Houchen has claimed more than £25,000 in tax-free daily “attendance” allowances from the House of Lords for 73 days when he hasn’t voted, spoken or performed any recorded parliamentary activity.
Incredible. Student List are candidates selected by groups of students to form an anti-corruption party.
Another youth-led movement overthrowing an authoritarian government in Europe.
Serbia: The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS-EPP) has admitted defeat in today's parliamentary elections. The Student List (SL-*) has won a majority of votes.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.
"Across UK & Europe, tens of thousands of deep vertical coal & mineral mine shafts sit abandoned after the fossil-fuel mining era end — and Scottish engineers at Gravitricity have found a way to turn them into giant mechanical grid batteries .."

A morning note of caution. The usual suspects are out and about with their geography denial (we must have nothing to do with neighbours we inevitably have to deal with) but I don't yet see Burnham's political outriders on the EU - it is him making the weather alone.
UK offering Freedom of Movement would be the game changer for conversations with the EU, one of the trio of people, pounds and positivity I identified earlier this year as crucial to any significant move to removing barriers.
I mean, yay obviously!
... but it IS insane that a week into this story we still don't have anything resembling a definitive explanation of who restricted it, why, and on whose authority.
Like admit it, you wouldn't be entirely surprised if tomorrow the NYT revealed it was a rogue Claude bot.
This take is always a sign of abject stupidity - Nazis banned free trade unions and collective bargaining, persecuted actual socialists and communists, shot the nominally lefty Nazis early on etc
If I were emperor of the universe any candidate promising to balance the budget or fund expensive programs by "cutting inefficiency, waste and fraud in government" would be immediately slimed like a Nickelodean host.
“Trump's British apologists are finally starting to calculate… their potential reward for supporting this lame duck President in the US is no longer worth the growing cost to their reputations in the UK”
Too late, Farage. Too much MAGA money. Too much fawning.

Q: Republicans are denouncing the Ramaswamy ad—
Trump: They don't know the facts.
Q: Do the sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you?
Trump: Quiet. You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?
Beth Rigby, "All of the people in the Makerfield focus group voted to Leave the EU. When Burnham said it at conference I thought: Brexit betrayal. Those Leave voting parts of the country won't like this."
"But you ask those people and they don't seem to mind (closer ties with the EU"
What frankly is the point of government publishing this sort of statement on trade negotiations with absolutely no useful content?
Compulsive secrecy to the point of parody. For no good reason whatsoever. www.gov.uk/government/n...
