At the Broadview, IL ICE detention center— IL state troopers are already pushing non-violent demonstrators out of the street and away from the ICE facility. One arrest so far.

The crowd has been corralled now into the designated "free speech area." Saw four arrests. Detainees were loaded into a Cook County sheriff's wagon and it has left the premises.

Have seen a few troopers out here without their name patches. This one tells me they're not required to wear them "with this uniform." Asked him to identify himself and he then told me his name is "Tad Nelson."

Protesters have decorated this parking lot fence on Beach with flyers for Silverio Villegas González. Two ICE agents shot and killed him in his car in neighboring Franklin Park three weeks ago. He leaves behind two sons he was caring for.

Not much has happened here in the last hour. Protesters and press surround the one right wing guy here who has been trying to argue with people. Some troopers are hanging out behind them watching it all unfold.

Led by Rabbi Ben, people have now taken the street and are starting a march away from the detention center into the streets of Broadview. Immediately after this, most of the march changes their mind and turns back, say they don't want to be led away from ICE.

The group remaining stopped at the highway ramp. Traffic is snarled. ISP comes rushing with batons but people are already out of the road and on the sidewalk.

ISP just shoved an elderly woman to the ground. Trooper here declares an unlawful assembly and is screaming at people to stay out of the road (they were...already out of the road).

Heard an officer say "let's do it" and then, in the dark, they tackle Rabbi Ben to the ground. He's being loaded into a CCSO wagon now. Broadview police also here screaming at people.

ISP declares unlawful assembly again via loudspeaker now. Unsure why since all people are doing right now is standing on the sidewalk where they've been ordered to be. They're telling people they have to either disperse or return to designated free speech zone.

Pushing people back to the free speech area now. Note: it is very dark out here and this road is not even. On the lawn part here off Lexington, there are also a bunch of uhhh awkwardly placed decorative boulders. Have almost tripped several times walking backward.

Another warning from ISP. People are already back by the zone. Protesters are being accused of blocking the road, but traffic is minimal here right now and cops are blocking traffic at the end of Lexington anyway. Hardly anyone in the street at this point, just a handful of folks.

Why is State Patrol there? What is truly their role? What rights do peaceful protesters have or not have? Trump places local LEO in untenable position. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I am confused on how protestors are to act?

Everyone is out of the road and either in the ~free speech zone~ or on adjacent corners. Troopers with long batons in the street now. Across the intersection, they are tightly guarding protesters and press from stepping off the sidewalk.

The Evil love their sayings, and there are Two that apply here; 1) "In the presence of True Good, the Evil must withdraw." And 2) "Beware the righteous man, for in his words there is power, and he is given dominion over unclean spirits." No Evil will harm a priest or a rabbi. This is #TheAwfulGood

I have a hard time understanding why local and state law enforcement keep carrying water for ICE and Border patrol when the administration is illegally sending troops into their state

This is why this world is sick. There’s always been this entitled white bitch that manages to get away with violence and all that does is make them angrier and more violent. Good people are incapable of hurting like this. After it all ends these people have to live with their conscience. They’ll be
