I’m glad so many people have found my “capybara method” for how to write alt text and image descriptions helpful! However, I know conflicting access needs exist and not everyone can write their own #AltText, so here’s an ongoing thread of tools that can help. Inclusion in thread ≠ endorsement

I post lots of cat screenshots, I do not have the time to write an #AltText for each and every picture that I upload due to #MECFS. For me nobody removes the curbstone if I come with my #PensionistPorsche or lowers it, so why should I write an #AltText with every upload???

Afraid not. If a tool designed to help people with sight disabilities can extract the useful part of an ALT description for their benefit, than so can a tool greedily designed to suck the tiniest drop of value from whatever we let it put its filthy claws on. Best we can do is give a subtle hint.

I have low vision and I rely on alt text and image descriptions to provide context about images on platforms like BlueSky. If you don’t know how to write #AltText yet, I have several guides on my website that can show you how— take the #AltTextChallenge! veroniiiica.com/how-to-write... (1/10)

1/ To request alt text or image descriptions for an image, add the tag # Alt4Me (no space) to the post. Users browsing the tag can then reply to the post with alt text or an image description written out. Images cannot be edited to include alt text, but they can be reposted by the creator

2/ Looking at a screenshot of text? Try using the text selection tool in the iOS Photos app or Google Lens to extract text from an image and copy/paste into the post. If it copies over in all caps, I recommend using a case converter tool since all caps can be challenging to read for long periods
