My dog usually sleeps in my bed, though she’s not allowed to lie on me as that asserts dominance. It’s where the phrase top dog comes from. Good she isn’t farty as she usually likes to top & tail. She wasn’t sure about her new ventilated mesh bed. I had to lie on that to show her it was safe.

Please read the Houston Press article about the mass deaths and horrific abuse at Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab right down the road from Austin, TX. Milam County Sheriff's Department has torn up all the complaints. www.houstonpress.com/news/dogtown...

When I was a kid, I tried to get my collie to do something like that. His response was to lie down with his back against the wall my twin bed was against, and push me off with all four legs.He wanted me on the bed but he wanted a bigger bed.

People always wonder how Im so good with animals and it's cuz I do shit like this 🤣 Instead of treating them like a thing I have control over I just kinda be an animal with em and let em do their thing I've won over many "my dog HATES men" dogs and "they dont even let ME pick them up" cats Proof👇

I'm the only one that can bathe him. He failed out of police dog training for being too aggressive There's another little psycho I couldnt even touch when I first started bathing him. Now I can hold him and bathe him. Ive pet him one time without the muzzle and survived but I still dont trust him 🤣

Anytime I’ve played down on the floor next to my 70 lb. Golden Retriever, she takes that as an invitation to play and she’ll jump on and around me while I’m covering my face for protection.

It's a social thing. Most animals do the same - call it pack behaviour or whatever but it is essential to communication and keeping a pack together. People should learn about it.

Totally did not work but in fairness this is the shelter dogs location before I laid down to see if she would join me. I can understand why that was more comfy💚 #michiganhumane #humansociety #dogs #naps

I use to sleep on the floor with my 5 dogs in a pack and the cat would join us. It’s one of my fondest memories. Oh, btw, my sis locked herself out of the house one morning so she knocked on my bedroom window to let her back in. The only one warning me about the stranger at the window was the cat!

My dog is a rescue who was born on the streets. We found her under an abandoned RV. She’s super reactive to being “cuddled” and won’t sleep on the bed with us. Her way of showing affection is to lay on the bed near us after dinner. She licks our hands & face to show affection. Bless her.

She was 6 months. She’s 4 1/2 now. I think the reactivity comes from having to protect herself from creepy-crawlies like snakes, scorpions, etc, since we found her on a dirt road in the jungles of Yucatán. Any twitch & she leaps up, terrified. She has her own human-sized twin bed now which she loves

When I was a kid, the people who rented the apartment on the first level of our house had a St. Bernard. The whole neighborhood knew and loved him. He had his own account at the neighborhood grocery store!! Haha! So sorry for your loss.

All my dogs have reacted, the same when I lay down with them except the one I have right now who jumps up and runs away 😔. And yes, I’ve told her how much it hurts my feelings, especially since I’m old and I have a really hard time getting back off of the floor!

Dogs are pack animals. From back when they were wolves, their instinct is to be in a group. Why anyone would think this is unusual, escapes me.

Yes! Mine sleeps on the bed with us. She crams herself into the crook of my husbands knees. He gets about 10” of leg room in a king size bed. 😁😁

He does. He's a rescue from the streets in India. He lost a paw when he was a pup to a macac monkey. He's very attached. It's been 9 years. He's a little aloof. Ain't he handsome?
