This is Moses. He saved his human from a rabid bobcat while on a walk. His mom said, "he's the hero of the day." We agree, so we're awarding him a 15/10 ❤️ (IG: wsfa12news)

I have bobcats on the Squak Mountain Ranch east of Bellevue, Washington. They are difficult to photograph, so this kit is from a professional nature photographer (unfortunately, unknown). Here is one of my typical photos as they dash away.

The bobcat had actually attacked three other people before their encounter. now they’re worried about possible rabies spreading in the wildlife in that area.

The good news is preventative rabies vaccines for small animals/pets are safe and very effective; I've also just read that in case a vaccinated dog gets bit by a rabid animal, vets will give the dog a booster just in case, so Moses' chances are pretty good

"We rate dogs" rates dogs out of 10. The average dog rates 12 out of 10. On rare occasion, a dog will score the highest which is 15. Moses scored 15. It's also a humorous account that you might get a kick out of following.

trump and rfk jr have cut all funding for rabbies reseaarch. that hit close to my home. i live in the country and a neighbor about 1/8 th mile away and his brother and one sister started a green house. the brother that lived a couple miles away was bitten by a bat and died. the test came 1 hr after.

i know who the #1 dog of the week is!!! “This is Moses. He saved his human from a rabid bobcat while on a walk. His mom said, "he's the hero of the day." We agree, so we're awarding him a 15/10”

Happens across every age group. There’s older folks who owe their quality of life to polio vaccines but refuse flu/shingles/rsv/covid etc and encourage their kids to not vaccinate the grandchildren of the older person. I do cover in immunisation teams and I’ve seen 5-95 year olds being antivax

German Shepherd Dogs ‼️ (an aside: quite interesting to hear “Prescott” pronounced as “press KIT”! Here I’ve always thought it was “PRESS cot”. Is this accurate, Arizonans??!!)

Yes, this is how Prescott, AZ is pronounced. If you pronounce it like pre-SCOTT, it's a pretty obvious sign you haven't been around long.

Or PRESScot. Arizonans like to trim down vowels in the last half of a word, like mount'n or cott'n instead of mountain or cotton.

Thinking of the bobcat, that was suicide by dog I guess. By the way, it's possible to eradicate rabies in the wild life with vaccines as well. In France, we started vaccinating foxes in 1986, with helicopter drop baits containing vaccines. In 1998, rabies was eradicated and the country remains free.

Well done Moses. This Fred. Fred got attacked by a domestic bengal cat when out on a walk. Fred screamed (I heard it from the house 100 yards away) ran off and left his dad to fend for himself.

I hope they gave the dog a rabies booster right away. I think that's standard when a pet is exposed. Our vaccinated cat once got into it with a bat of unknown rabies status (both were okay), & he definitely got a booster immediately.

Moses is worth at least 15/10. What an amazing good boy. Thankfully we don't have rabies in Australia, and we want to keep it that way. So if you bring your fur friends please understand why our quarantine laws are very strict.
