I talked to a researcher who studies social isolation about this in 2023. Friendships, unlike AI, aren't built on "instant gratification": What happens when people "try to create real intimacy with a real person ... who can’t be manipulated in the same way?” www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Real question: do you think Zuckerberg is aware of what it’s like to be friends with real people who can’t be manipulated?

one of the most antisocial people has made social media his raison d’être. anything he creates will be twisted to mirror his undeveloped skill with actual people (which is painfully apparent with each public appearance.)

No- he has no idea what it means to be a friend Ppl are only nice to him because he’s rich. Same with Elon. These guys are so desperate to be looked at as cool or funny. Problem is those are 2 things you can’t buy. Just like you can’t buy true friendship

No, and I also think anyone who has been extremely wealthy for years falls into the same category. The people around them want to be part of their lifestyle and most of them trust no one. They don’t have friends.

No. Rich people in general only hang out with folks who stroke their egos. Zuck has been wildly wealthy since before his brain fully developed. He's not had anyone in his life who pushed back, told him no, or said his ideas were bad.

Basically every industry at this point. It's all short-term thinking, budget cuts, & screwing over workers & consumers so they can get just a bit more for themselves. I do fleet maintenance. Our boss's boss keeps rejecting orders for tires. Wouldn't want the trucks to be able to go anywhere lmao

I think A LOT about his on stage interactions with Jensen from Nvidia: where they give each other jackets and talk about preparing lunch together and how they slice tomatoes and that's like the depth of friendship

it's extraordinarily cringe; you can watch the Nvidia keynotes on YouTube if you want to cringe so hard you roll into a ball (although reading about Zuck freaking out if slices on tomato on the plate touch made him slightly more human because he's clearly extremely neurodivergent)

No disagreement there. I recently left a Big 4 firm under somewhat similar circumstances. Her story for me was relatable; cathartic. Am I complicit in gen ai? One could make a case I reckon, wasn’t my intention tho. But. Best of intentions, yada yada yada, etc, etc 🤷🏼‍♂️

For a more recent insider account of what Zuckerberg and his inner circle of out-of-touch sociopaths have been up to I heartily recommend Sarah Wynn-Williams’ book “Careless People” published this past March.

No. But I think he genuinely thinks he would like this. Meetings where he desn't need to look anyone in the eye. Friends programmed to say the correct response. Someone who will just listen to him talk about trains for an hour.

For sure, but in fairness, this guy is getting manipulated all the fucking time 🙃 look at how many bad bets and gormless bullshit his career is full of. Rich people probably believe the rest of us are also *this* lonely because their own lives are so meaningless

I don't think anyone with that much money can be. Even in the most normal interactions, the money's always in the background. When you add that on top of the fact he's a dude who made that money turning friendship into a video game, yeah I truly believe he has fewer than three friends. Three fewer.
