SCOOP: Elon Musk’s DOGE has plans to stage a “hackathon” next week in Washington, DC. The goal is to create a single “mega API”—a bridge that lets software systems talk to one another—for accessing IRS data, sources tell WIRED.

Hahaha. HAHAHA. As someone who has been in tech a LONG time and seen many, many different types of tech, I wish them good luck making one API to fit them all. That someone thinks that this is remotely possible is laughable at best.

worked at 4 startups, none of this is happening without increasing the debt exponentially leading to a catastrophic launch of a product that creates more tech debt. And there’s no other business to sell off to - because it’s the government. Tech culture is a grift. only the top walk away unscathed.

Great. A Palantir sponsored IRS hackathon. Anyone in any oversight role familiar with the way hackathons work? Anyone in oversight at all? Billions have been spent trying to prevent these hackers and trolls from accessing these sensitive systems. Did we just give up? This is sheer insanity.

I’ve worked on these types of global data architecture consolidations before. It takes months if not years of planning and work from all levels of the organization. This will break. It will cause errors. It will create chaos.

I am all for a democratic technological advancements. But when it’s done with disregard for democracy, it’s hard to trust it’s for the good of the people and of the people. It’s much easier to think “absolute power corrupts absolutely!”

It can and will be used against you. The Political Donations you wrote off, in theory, identifies you as someone to be targetted during elections... So many ways they can misuse that data ... one tiny fudge on a claim, and you could be charged with tax evasion. This is a war on US privacy rights.

They are making my identity fraud case against them so much easier. Could you maybe ask them all to wear black shirts with the word “CRIMINAL” on it & snap a quick pic for me?

The Peter Thiel Palantir, the same guy who bought that Senate seat for JD Vance who is our current VP? Say it ain't so. There's a REASON those agencies were NOT connected. To ensure taxpayer data PRIVACY. Guess we don't need that any longer?

Yeah, I just love EL0N and Peter Theil having access to my private information and being able to access whatever they want and whenever they want. These MOFOs need to go to jail immediately.

Prediction: This will end with Russia having all of our IRS data, the administration saying the libs and mainstream media are overreacting, and MAGA on X saying, “well actually, it’s good the Russians have our data”.

We should make it very clear, if you ever had an @doge.gov email address, you will not be forgotten, you will not be forgiven, you will never work in this country again for long, we will find you, whether it’s 10 years from now, 20, 30, 40, or 50 plus, we will never allow you a moment of happiness.

An API bridge to communicate with COBOL, JCL, DB2 running on old IBM mainframes. Good luck getting that done in the next century. Oh and I bet CICS is involved too. These idiots don’t know anything about SQL.

I think ELON MUSK and DOGE have hacked all Americans' secure information. I could hardly believe they were permitted to move Federal information to their offsite servers in the beginning of this nightmare. This new "Hackathon" is just another Trump Administration failure.

DOGE ops have repeatedly referred to the company Palantir as a possible partner in the project, sources tell WIRED. "It's basically an open door controlled by Musk for all American's most sensitive information with none of the rules that normally secure that data," an IRS worker alleges to WIRED.

What could go wrong? And with Palantir involved, Thiel and Musk walk away with the keys to the kingdom. Tech bro coup continues unchallenged. We’re f*cked.

“It’s hard to imagine more sensitive data than the financial information the IRS holds,” Evan Greer, director of Fight for the Future, a digital civil rights organization, tells WIRED. The IRS, Palantir, Sam Corcos, and Gavin Kliger did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Full scoop:

Palantir is a Genocide Company bsky.app/profile/mehd...

"Meet the Tech Billionaire Just as Dangerous as Elon Musk" Eccentric Palantir CEO Alex Karp is profiting from Israel’s genocide abroad, writes @taylorlorenz.bsky.social for Zeteo, and wants to make money off of Trump’s immigration crackdown at home. zeteo.com/p/meet-the-t...

The loss of expertise with the dismissed technology staff is impossible to believe. How can they not see this will destroy the IRS infrastructure, and our government will be unable to be funded?

That, and just that, isn't a horrible idea.. We shouldn't be running critical infrastructure on archaic systems that so few know anything about. But not with a f'ing chainsaw. Chainsaws are for when you don't care about things needing to go just right.

Relax, nothing could possibly go wrong. Programmers (or AI) never make mistakes and APIs are always bug-free. Because of that, no one needs to worry about IRS payments/refunds, Social Security payments, or any other government function related to the software DOGE is overhauling at insane speed.

This is very concerning. And what are they implying here? “…will be good for Americans and VERY GOOD for PALANTIR,” Palantir CEO Alex Karp said in a February earnings call. “There will be ups and downs. This is a revolution, SOME PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET THEIR HEADS CUT OFF.”

I can tell you that this DOGE idea is some dangerous bullshit. No way they can take the (mostly) antique systems the Federal Agencies work in (because gov't keep old systems until they fall apart) & magically join them all up. They're going to crash EVERYTHING if they try this.

I wonder if it will take longer to create this API or for it to get exploited. The muskrats could save time by just publishing everything to the internet now.
