Rights come with responsibilities. Personal freedom should be honored, but first, do no harm. Being a patriot isn't about winning, but respect for our broader society, both the spirit and letter of the law. She/her Opinions are mine.

NEW: This week we reported how USPS has slowed down mail pickup/delivery times, boosting risks that ballots could reach election offices too late to be counted. USPS also shrunk the period for "extraordinary measures" to ensure timely election mail delivery from 15 days before election day to 10.

Pay attention Dems. Gov Beshear won twice, in a deep red state, and never threw trans people under the bus. He led with compassion rather than the fear and cowardice we've seen from some of our Ohio candidates and party leadership.

I guess the hundreds of millions Republicans are getting from billionaires for ads in the midterms aren’t enough so they are just going to steal taxpayer dollars to run more of them.

Lotta talk right now about the President using public money to push political propaganda. It didn't start with these TV ads. Let me remind you of the political nonsense he forced the Census Bureau to publish: newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/how-to-fak...

Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have prohibited future governors from handing over abortion providers, helpers, and patients to red states for criminal prosecution. The bill also barred extraditions involving transgender care.

What I can't get over is the Dems out there trying to transphobia their way out of these numbers. Just out there riding the crest of the wave, doing morally unsupportable pandering to bigotry at a time when it is also strategically foolish, just for love of the capitulation game.

John Muller@mrjohnmuller.bsky.social

I don't think Trump is going to be able to transphobia his way out of these numbers. He's gonna try, it will be absolutely disgusting and incredibly harmful, and it will fail.

The vicious and corrupt cycle of monopolization: 1) Corporations argue that their growth is just part of the free market. 2) Use their monopoly power to price gouge consumers and shaft workers. 3) Use profits to make political donations. 4) Lobby against antitrust enforcement. 5) Repeat.

Trump’s and his real base of support — billionaires, Big Oil, Big Tech, defense contractors, & Wall Street — are looting the country at an unbelievable rate. They are pumping money into the Nov 3 midterms because this election may limit what they can get away with moving forward. Know the stakes.

There are people who care deeply about delivering good government services working on figuring out what to do next, but you should know that this is happening. I think a lot of things go wrong when we mistake programming metaphors for how the computer works. You might have object-oriented programming but it is only one computer; it's just a way of keeping track of how the program works. Similarly, we'd think about AI differently if rather than "agents"...
