It’s been established fairly comprehensively that Long Covid is the result of damage to the ACE-2 sites. How is that fixable by ‘believing in oneself?’

Oh they are doing their job: maximize earnings.
The farcical fallacy underpinning this piece serves one purpose:

"Engagement" "The job" is what needs redefining (in politics, journalism, business). Someday, soon, society is going to realize that profit as the only driver is driving us off a cliff

@wired.com's premise is: BRT: "This cures Long COVID" Science: "Prove it" BRT: "Can't. Researchers are too afraid of the backlash" So… you're saying you've cured cancer, but because scientists are skeptical you're NOT going to organized a bullet-proof double-blind randomized control trial? 🤔🙄

As a longtime sufferer of autoimmune disease, which also have often have no clear blood tests, sometimes I wonder if long COVID for some is actually their bodies being stressed and their autoimmune genetics finally being expressed. Would love to see a follow up to this article with research.

there was a study that came out just last week that showed exactly that. you know, actual research into the biomechanics of long covid can’t think one’s self out of autoimmunity, no matter how much sexist medicine has told women that autoimmune disease is all in our silly little hysterical heads🙃🙃🙃

Exactly. I am one of those people. I didn’t know I had an autoimmune disease until I got repeated Covid infections. Everything significantly worsened from that point.

How original. It’s all in our minds. Where have we heard that before? People are far too polite in this thread. I hope you, or an immediate loved one, gets moderate to severe ME. It’s literally the only way you people learn.

This is complete and total garbage that is harmful to long covid patients and should permanently diminish the credibility of your reporting. It’s certainly the last wired article I’ll ever read.

The psychologisation of illness has been around for a long time, particularly where women are concerned. Ppl forget that “Covid” is a SARS virus. No one should be surprised about the damage it can cause. An excerpt about sexism in the medical profession: bsky.app/profile/long...

I swear, if one more health professional looks at me in *that way* while I’m hooked up to an ECG, and asks, “Are you sure it’s not anxiety?” ….😡

Hey @wired.com editors! Maybe next time you all could hire a writer with one of these “mysterious” health conditions to write about what it’s like to deal with every day (hello, it’s me, I’m one of them) instead of publishing whatever this is

What's next? We gonna bring back bloodletting? I woulnt use your magazine as birdcage liners at this point. The old wired would beat the current wired up with the strength of its reporting.

This is a poorly researched and deeply misleading piece. The BPS crowd engage in bad faith, but Levinovitz seems not to have realized that and sucked down their whole shtick. I’ve appreciated Wired, but may cancel my subscription.

This Wired article is disinformation. Here are nearly half a million peer reviewed journal articles about SARS-CoV-2 and its result, long COVID. Long COVID has more than 200 expressions and is the #1 chronic illness in children, having surpassed asthma. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/research/cor...

Not enjoying such speculative reporting. Also, maybe first step in getting rid of mind-body dichotomy would be not painting it so black and white in your reporting. Finally, people with long Covid need biomedical AND supportive therapy.

Beyond misinfo, the logical fallacies and leaps in this article are dizzying. Not only is it patients’ fault they’re sick, it’s also their fault they’ve ruined research? But ok, I’ll tell my kid whose life is ruined to just change their thinking and tada, all better! Why didn’t we try that sooner?
