Video of a student in my town who wrote a political op-ed being grabbed off the street by government agents bsky.app/profile/pale...

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying. They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks. From WCVB: youtu.be/PuFIs7OkzYY

Historically doens't work. You have to explain why it was wrong once only. Then lead them to a life where they dont do bad now, and don't have to justify having done bad before. If you ask people that did bad, to justify it, they will. If you ask them often enough, they will convince themselves.

I don't quite understand what you're getting at. Historically what doesn't work is reconciliation with fascists and their ilk. Sherman should have kept going and Trump should already be in prison as well as every Republican who aided him on January 6th and the plots to overturn that election.

I can hear the brain drain from the U.S. as the best students from around the world go elsewhere. And they'll take the research, grants, and startups with them. If any "good" comes from this, it will be taking the U.S. down a peg.

America has already long since created a police state. Now it's being enacted on people who speak up against the government. The best part? These agents are gleefully going along with everything that's supposed to be against what America stands for.

Someone can get arrested off the street in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, be detained, and be denied the right to speak to their lawyer!? That does not sound like the "Spirit of America" at all!

Hopefully they don't get sent to the gulag they've been sending people to or they're not coming back. Funny how people get upset with you for occasionally having politics in your comics when your friends are being abducted and tortured by the government with no due process

I read that account, and the cruelty astounds me. "The nurse told her during the third [asthma attack] that “it was all in my mind,” and took her to the medical center but again was not treated." Was all this malice really just festering under the surface, waiting to be sanctioned?

I have worked retail and I have worked food service. Without hesitation, yes: some people are waiting, practically salivating, for any excuse to justify inflicting blame + cruelty upon another person. An individual who chooses this line of work would get ample opportunities for both.
