Quote with your first computer. I'm very lucky to still have mine -- An Atari 400. My dad built an external keyboard from an 800 kbd mechanism. He also upgraded its RAM to... well.... 48kB. 😁

Quote with your first computer. It was actually pretty old by the time I got my hands on it in the early 90s but I loved it, and still love Amigas now.

You should be able to get the computer you pay thousands of dollars for simply NOT put up screens that your low vision mother cannot navigate.

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

This is a long shot, but I'm looking for a TDS3EM Ethernet extension card for a Tektronix TDS3000(B) series oscilloscope like the one shown. I only need it for about a few hours. If anyone in the SF Bay Area has one and willing to loan it or to allow me do my thing at their place, let me know!

#MODtober Day 8 - A demo tune, again! Rink A Dink: Redux - original tune by Nuke, and Redux by Magnar. From the Amiga demo of the same name. Played in XMPlay under Wine on my Linux box. People dunk on XMPlay but I quite like it as a player, myself. demozoo.org/music/59659/

Two-thirds of Americans support Medicare for All. Americans are done with a healthcare system that puts profits before people. Medicare for All can save 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year—turns out, progressive policies can be good politics AND good policy.

#MODtober Day 6 - Back on the PC today with Libertine by Zodiak. From Cascada's 1993 demo Hex Appeal. The tune is, IMO, better than the demo, but as an early PC prod it's still worth watching. Played on AWEMP, a hardware MOD player for the Sound Blaster AWE-32 demozoo.org/music/142374/

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

#MODtober Day 5: One of the first MOD tunes I ever downloaded - "Defloration" by Emax of TRSI. Simple dance tune - nothing too inspiring. Placed 18th 😱 at The Party '93 Amiga music compo. But I love it anyway and it's kinda become a bit of a classic. demozoo.org/music/5941/

Played in HippoPlayer on my Amiga 1200 with TF1260. Video and audio capture via RetroTINK 6x CE and RetroAccess Amiga scart cable.

#MODtober Day 4: Remember those 3 weeks when games used tracker tunes for soundtracks? "Dimension 2012" by Necros. A Fasttracker (not FT2) tune using 8 channels. Used in the 1995 game "Crusader: No Remorse" from Origin but also in Digital Psychosis musicdisk. Played in TrackMeister

I actually own a boxed copy of this game. It's... not a good game. But I love the Demoscene connection and the soundtrack is killer

I got an email from this guy yesterday. He's going to be at PRGE, probably networking and fishing for more interviews. My plea to any developers or industry people he approaches: Please don't accept his requests. Please don't enable hate. Everyone else, please be civil. Preferably just ignore.

It is such a shame that cool people (I'm assuming unknowingly) keep showing up for that racist Jesse Petrilla's YouTube channel.

Please please please stop making a big deal out of the G7 reserves release. Yes, it’s 100 million barrels over 4 months. We - the planet - use 100 million barrels of crude every…single…day. Almost literally a drop in the bucket.

Day 3 of #MODtober - more weird players, more odd tunes. Hunz on the track today with "Iron Curtain" from the Stage 9 musicdisk. Playing in FT2 clone by 8bitbubsy. You can always count on Hunz for good vocals on a tracker tune. Oh, and great tracking too. And atypical tracker styles.

I’ve been listening to the @theycreateworlds.bsky.social series on the home computer price wars of the early to mid 1980s and the decision to engage in a race to the bottom on price more or less wrecked Commodore, TI, and Atari; this is not good news for *any* of these AI companies

#MODtober, day 2: A Kind of Beauty, by the amazing duo of Carlos and Norfair. The soundtrack to Live Evil by Mandula, released in 2000 at Assembly. Only placed 11th cuz ASM2k was a hot party for incredible releases. I <3 tracker music in unusual styles. Played in OCP on my P-II 400 via SB AWE32

The MP3 version also has a slightly different title: "Another kind of beauty". I take this as evidence that the XM came first and this MP3 was edited slightly before being packed in the demo. #MODtober

In Mindcandy 1 commentary, Trix and crew ponder whether this tune was tracked. Answer is: "kind of". It's in the demo as an MP3 that's slightly different from this XM version. My theory is it started life tracked but they either finished in a DAW or found the MP3 easier to use in the demo #MODtober

Hell yeah - it's #modtober ! Time to post about awesome tracker tunes. Only, this year, I'm going to listen to them as stupidly as possible. Starting off with a banger - Cold Sweat by Virtua Point Zero, played on MOD4WIN under Wine on my Linux Mint desktop. Hey - at least it's in mono :-P

It's well documented that Mac Tonight was the KING of driving dinnertime sales... but did you know that in 1988, select markets handed out MAC MONEY during dinner, redeemable for a free breakfast sandwich on a future visit. These three coins came from that promotion in Ohio/Pennsylvania.
