This should have made it to the US!

Famicom in 1983: This isn't even my final form. Famicom in 1985: Just need the disk drive now! The Family BASIC Pack (1984) enabled the Famicom to live up its name and evolve into a home micro. Quite a few type-in and hobbyist games were released that took advantage of it. 📖: BEEP, March 1985.

The people forcing "AI" on all of us have lost touch with humanity. They assume we'll all want it because they think we have, too.

cool, cool

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

I think those who love using AI for programming actually hate programming or their job; so it's kind of freeing to them

we're basically treating modern video game projects as post war steel now, contimated at the molecular level any and all things that exist after the advent of claude cowork must be assumed vibe coded until proven otherwise with publicly available evidence

(The joke is I'm old and have a beard and the trans folks and furries are generally on the right side of things)

If any other consumer product were this damaging, unreliable, developed with massive theft, and brazenly marketed as capable of causing even more harm in the future, it would be pulled from the market and its creators prosecuted. Stopping "AI" companies is the moderate position. #fuckai

New from @timnitgebru.blacksky.app and me: "It is high time for us to regulate usage of systems sold as “AI”, not because they are magical machines, but because they are error-prone products that shouldn’t be used in high stakes scenarios." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

my god, it's full of PC Engine

Sasha's Retrobytes 🏳️‍⚧️@sharkabytes.bsky.social

One of my favourite tech avenues of late 80s and early 90s Japanese PCs is stuff that had a PC Engine built into it. The PC-KD863G is a fine example of the PC Engine-in-things: a standalone 15" monitor with a PCE built in that could be used as is for a super-sharp RGB image or with a Japanese PC.

i would rather remove my eyeballs than witness an AI tingler cover

The Craetor🍄☕️@craetor.bsky.social

Hello, esteemed mr Tingle... I'd like to inquire, by nature of the times we live in, whether you use AI at all for your covers these days.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

Your reminder that there is a felon in the White House identified in the Epstein files as a rapist, there has been no investigation, and the files are still being hidden in violation of federal law.

I spent my entire 20+yr career in tech being told that hooking up with/dating your coworkers was the worst possible thing you could do in a professional environment (a sentiment I generally agree with) and now the "AI" bros are doing this shit?!?

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

The bizarre culture that’s sprung up around Silicon Valley AI companies - which overlaps hugely with rationalist and effective altruist circles - appears to be seriously pressuring some women into attending sex parties for the sake of networking. This is, needless to say, horrifying.

I'm really starting to understand why so many of the pro-"ai" talking points ("you can't stop it, just get used to it") sound SO. FUCKING. RAPEY. #fuckai

I went to a tech hangout wearing this t-shirt. Three separate people asked if I used AI to make it. Like.... what the fuck? Do people not remember that you can make things? By yourself? With your own little brain? #fuckai

#vcf needs to get on board as well. There were a small but prominent number of tables with slop posters and AI-developed products without acknowledgement at #vcfmw.

listening to very moderated, polite discourse on KQED about a deranged narcissist building a literal sniper nest in the middle of DC. Literally no discussion about who he's planning to murder in the next couple months

again, they're giggling about building an arch when his poll numbers are low, and plugging their columns on the Atlantic, and utterly ignoring how this is a plan to murder US citizens on the streets of DC. To say liberalism is failing to rise to the moment is tragically, comedically insufficient.

Today, I decided to dump all my thoughts about A.I. infecting the retro and Saturn scene into one cohesive article. In short, I am certifiably sick of this.

SEGA SATURN, SHIRO!@segasaturnshiro.bsky.social

Is there any harm in using AI to work on — or entirely create — projects for the Sega Saturn and elsewhere in the retro gaming scene? Yes, PandaMonium says in this opinion column, equating such work to digital asbestos: www.segasaturnshiro.com/2026/09/24/c... #sega #saturn #segasaturn #retrogaming

This seems to be a no-brainer to me. Everyone I know who has tried playing around with these things learns very quickly that what they produce seems pretty good only when you're dealing with subjects you know little/nothing about.

Something I said in a conversation this week!

Problem Machine@problemmachine.bsky.social

Quoting myself from a day ago - "The problem is thinking that the product of a programmer is code. It isn't, really, the code is just the final stage. The actual valuable thing the programmer produces is the underlying mental model. Without that, the code is just tech debt"

The only ethical solution (if we had a functioning government) is to nationalize, shut down, and prosecute.

Dear Apple, I'm not going to install #macOS Golden Gate, until you provide a switch disabling everything AI, including preventing the download of that humungous LLM thing. I don't want to sacrifice 20 GiB of internal storage for something I'd never ever use. Yours, Disgruntled. #NoAI

I got my first "gen Z stare". I am very understanding about people's sitiations but "flight attendant" is perhaps not the job you should pick if answering a single, basic question about where to put my bag makes you cover your face and mutter incomprehensibly 🫢

Much like "AI" models are running out of training data, VC is running out of things to monetize, and thinking is one of the last. These companies utterly loathe the notion that humans can create something without having to pay for the privilege, and are trying their best to destroy that capability.

Chris Millard@chrismillard83.bsky.social

this is perhaps the most useful thing that LLMs and GenAI have done: to provoke people into articulating (over again) that even the 'hardest' of 'hard sciences' are human endeavours, with human meaning, and concerned with human understanding of the significance of the world we all inhabit
