Reminds me of college...

‘Pop-Up Video’ premiered 30 years ago today. 🫧 The popular VH-1 program added trivia and snide quips to music videos via “info nuggets” that popped up on-screen.

The Brewers' offensive explosion has really overshadowed the fact that Gasser faced the minimum through 6. Not a perfect game, but wow.

They said it couldn't be done. Truly a historic moment to see a professional basketball team win a game without ... their owner.

My own preference page was pretty accurate, but this thread is hysterical

Amazon users are discovering a bizarre "About You" page that reveals what the company thinks it knows about them One woman found Amazon had determined she "has flat buttocks"

Do you ever have a random pen that lasts longer than it has any right to? I pulled out this pen to write a shopping list and realized that the company was acquired more than 20 years ago, and the product branding has likely been dead for at least 15. I probably don't use it every week, but still...

Since 1910, there have been 124,497 innings on record in AL/NL play with at least 4 hits recorded. Only 82 (0.07%) were scoreless. This is the first one since 2015. (h/t Michael Mountain)

Carson Benge threw out two Padres from right field in one inning.

I noticed that Bowling for Soup is playing in Raleigh next weekend, and then realized that their hit "1985" was released closer to 1985 than to today.

Complete game stats this year: * 14 total across the majors so far * 4 of them have been CG losses, all of which were 8-inning efforts * The Rangers have won 2 of those 4 Kudos to Shane Baz. Also to former Ranger Leody Taveras for being the only Oriole to score (and almost score again).

Looking for a hotel for my next trip on a travel app, and I found this under amenities. Exactly what kinds of "conferences" happen in this space? Do I want to know?

@juphoff.bsky.social curious about your opinion here. Why did the home plate umpire not even seem to weigh in? Why didn't they go to replay? It seems the epitome of "you could have easily fixed this and just didn't care."

Most of the time, startup airline Avelo provides low-fare service from places like Connecticut, California and Florida. Starting next month, Avelo is slated to begin flights for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which the company says is critical to its financial future.

I feel old and out of touch today. I took my son to see Minecraft, not realizing that there was a "trend" of people ruining the movie with constant screaming, throwing popcorn buckets, riding on each other's shoulders, etc. I gave up when I got showered with soda about 75 minutes in. 😞

Effective immediately: Heard Island will be canceling our contract with Spacex for ALL future space travel. Dr. Amelia Sealhart and CPT Charles Icebergh will be leading our charge to adapt all flightless birds to flight capability. This will supplement our already extensive Albatross Space Force

One of the world’s most chilling ruins is the Ploutonion at Hierapolis, otherwise known as “the Gate to Hell”. Here crowds once watched priests lead animal sacrifices down into a cave, where they died mysteriously as if dragged down to the underworld. And no one knew how they did it until recently.

Despite the title, this article is not about marriage; it's about women more generally deciding that in the current culture war, they can do without men and be better off. It reminds me of Lysistrata, except that our modern war is over women's own rights. Gift link: www.wsj.com/lifestyle/re...

I volunteered at Food Bank CENC yesterday, and boy does that place always have weird projects to be done. Saturday's mission was to sort through and bundle 12,000 Capri Sun pouches, discarding leaky ones, cleaning the sticky mess off of the good ones, and making sure they all had straws attached.

During a time when so much is wrong in this country in the world, it feels good to be at a conference with people finding ways to do some good both locally and globally. #rotary

Yesterday, my son was talking about learning to find the axis of symmetry for a quadratic function, and that he didn't understand why it was -b/2a. This resulted in me showing him the general formula for finding slopes of polynomials, i.e., intro calculus.

I don't know who I followed today to trigger it, but after months of very few bots trying to follow me here, I've had to block at least twenty today. (I say had to, but it also seems that bluesky shut some of them down before I blocked, so maybe if I ignore them they will mostly go away)

Proud dad moment: I saw the score distribution for this year's AMC 10 competition and realized that my son scored in the top half ... as a sixth grader. But even better than that, he's become very engaged in the Art of Problem Solving site since taking the test. It's so cool to see.
