These riots are about the bored nihilism of young men, mostly, not about education www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

@radiofreetom.bsky.social If American college students were going to riot like French college students over crowded classrooms and crumbling buildings, Emporia State Teacher's College would be in flames right now. It isn't.

I am in no way sympathetic to the riots in France. At the same time, nor do I see them as some harbinger of the end of civilization. I mainly see it as France being France.

Ten years ago today. In just the last few days: Trump made a deal for the U.S. to buy Russian diesel, an economic lifeline for Putin; he and Elon Musk blamed each other for an order that slowed down Starlink satellite connectivity over Ukraine...

Having an entire article written about how you’re a lazy slob who doesn’t want to work is one of the most embarrassing things that happen to you.

I don’t know what this adoration of Lamine Yamal is… he’s young and good, but it seems people project their politics onto him. In any case, every time he handles the ball he goes for the most complicated thing he can think of and his team loses possession. Not a good thing.

Like always, the American need to inject their politics into everything ends up destroying them.US Soccer for sure was complicit in the blatant corruption at the WC and it was a distraction for the players who were humiliated in front of a loyal crowd.Lost the little respect they had from the world.

"He only did some amazing stuff during a pandemic and a Russian invasion of central Europe, and left one of the best economies in 35 years, but he didn't completely overhaul the Supreme Court." Also, he didn't vow to serve one term. Good Lord, some Democrats are impossible to please

David Harvey@topladave.bsky.social

Biden was a mediocre establishment President. He did good things like pulling us out of COVID, re-establishing us in NATO and with Allies. His biggest failure was not doing significant Supreme Court reform, and responding strongly after January 6th. He also reneged on his promise to serve one term.

Interesting that the difference in WC goals between Ronaldo and Messi is the 4 penalties Argentina was gifted in Qatar and the 3 goals Messi scored after he committed an obvious red card foul in which nothing was called.

Breaking news: The Pentagon is moving to recruit hundreds of troops to appear as spectators at President Trump’s UFC cage-fighting event on the White House lawn, and requiring those who attend to pay their own way and meet height and weight requirements.

Seems the more money you have the bigger of an ass kisser you have to be.

US universities genuinely are like “welcome to Tennessee Agricultural College in Bumfuck Nowheresville. We invented the modern potato and our facilities include a particle accelerator, nuclear reactor, and TOP500 supercomputer. Tuition is $12,000 for instate students and we have 40,000 of them”

The damage Netanyahu has done to Israel's standing in the world is incalculable. He basically wedded his country to an authoritarian movement in the United States that Americans, sooner or later, are going to soundly reject.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

I love this photo of astronaut Christina Koch looking back at Earth from Artemis II. She's the first woman to see the full sphere of our beautiful planet. Welcome home to the crew, and thank you for reminding us of all we can discover together.
