This year has been brutal, and like most people you probably want to do more about climate change. But what, and how? Great news – I’ve written just the book for you! It’s called What One Person Can Do and it’s a clear and simple how-to guide, a roadmap to help you make influential changes...

I've been speaking to communities impacted by AI data centre expansion, and hearing what it's been like trying to push back. Here's my latest Canary piece, with thanks to Llanrumney Cardiff resident Nick for sharing his experience: www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

thecanary.coCan local communities turn the tide on AI data centers? The AI boom has caused a surge in tech companies proposing to build massive data centres across the UK. Local communities are pushing back.

Scientists, campaigners and musicians have brought the same message to the government this week as it considers allowing more fossil fuel extraction whilst most of England and Wales is in drought and large areas of the UK remain on fire. My latest for The Canary: www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

thecanary.coIs Burnham feeling the heat on Rosebank?Rosebank’s owners have resubmitted their application to drill. The public have made themselves heard. Now the decision rests with government

I don't want to have to engage in protest. I'd rather just get on with my research, and I found it quite emotional But while my government is considering pouring more fuel on the fires, despite everything we know and everything we're experiencing, what else am I supposed to do?

A short article from me as top climate scientists including warn the new energy secretary about the dire consequences of green-lighting more oil and gas. I almost can't believe we are still having to say this amidst a summer of extreme heat, drought and fire. 😵 www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

Combining science and activism.... does it damage public trust? Or could it be the only thing powerful enough to combat the disinformation and passivity that is holding back urgent action on existential threats such the Climate Emergency? More from us in @nature.com today: rdcu.be/fzcmS

NEW BLOG FOR YOU Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too. A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI: ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...

“…there are so many ways our institutions and systems constrain, delay, complicate and stifle that action. Whilst opinion about the protest’s tactics was divided, I didn’t hear much to defend the conference’s choice of sponsor.” www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

Our world is on fire, yet big banks like JP Morgan Chase, Barclays and HSBC are *still* backing fossil fuels. If this makes you want to find a better bank, head to bank.green @bankgreen.bsky.social

True to all stereotypes, I'm here to ruin the heatwave. But, more seriously, this heat is a taste of much worse to come... but together we have a choice about how fast, how bad and how unjust we allow this to continue.

UK temperatures hit record highs this week. But the way we talk about heatwaves often misses the the danger and who is most at risk from it. by @abiperrin.bsky.social www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

As the repression of peaceful protest becomes excessive and routine in the UK, it has never been more important to: 1. know our rights 2. defend them 3. put them to good use. More from me here 👇

After writing this I'm left wondering who Drax's board are more afraid of? Is it the activists who have disrupted previous AGMs... or the incoming visitors from the USA who have once again travelled here to hold them accountable for the impacts of their pellet mills on frontline communities?
