The EU is working on how to stop Russia from laundering its reputation through international sporting events, but as it talks, Moscow creates new facts on the ground. It remains unknown when the measures will be announced. In the meantime, Russia's lobbying to return to sports continues unabated.

If there are Choc Hobnobs in the house, I'll eat the lot in one sitting. So the last time I bought a pack was 3 years ago. They cost £1. Yesterday, in the same shop: £2.50. Inflation is 5% Not 150% Should cost £1.16 Not £2.50 Sometimes you lose sight of just how badly you're being ripped off.

First Orban, now Vučić. Both fundamentally undone by rank corruption of their regimes. Which is so often the reality of the authoritarian right in power. Really worth paying heed to in Western Europe right now

"Some people cannot afford/don't have the space for extra groceries..." A close runner-up. The vast majority of people CAN keep a few provisions. Doing so will plainly reduce panic and make life easier for gov't AND those who can't afford to, during an emergency. In short, grow up.

"Stockpiling was illegal during the war..." One of the weakest (and, for some reasone, most repeated) arguments against taking basic steps to prepare for a short disruption, like losing power for a couple of days. Keeping a wind up torch and some bottled water is not "stockpiling" ffs.

It's always the fucking plants. On any house listing if the rooms feature pristine green plants, and slightly more than you'd expect, it's absolutely AI.

The French set fire to everything on the streets of Paris once every 3 years to ensure the Sun Deity offers a bountiful harvest next Spring, a rich tradition stretching back millenia, and one that will continue regardless of the ethnic demographics of the French population.

You can't continue to run a system that impoverishes and infuriates a significant percentage of the population. There are no walls high enough to keep out an angry, hungry quarter of the population with nothing left to lose.

What's happening in France is hard to justify but easy to understand. In 1981 the UK had riots because 1 in 10 were unemployed and couldn't afford to eat. In 2026, 1 in 5 are IN WORK and can't afford to eat. What happens when AI doubles that number? What levels of policing will control it?

This is an important point. I became a British citizen in 2013, but because I got my NI number in 2008, the lazy government records my various jobs as going to foreigners

Emma Monk@monkemma.bsky.social

The dataset allows you to break it down by the nationality of the person currently in the job. Another caveat: Nationality is recorded at the point someone first registers for NI. This status doesn’t change if and when they become British citizens. So it is likely an overcount of foreign workers

Reminder that the EU had no compunction about banning Russia Today. If anything, Musk’s behaviour is more egregious - directly assisting a foreign enemy's military attack. And this is on top of his support for race riots, Nazis and CSAM! By any measure, a threat to national security.

Steve Peers@stevepeers.bsky.social

It's legitimate for the EU, the UK, Canada and others to support their Ukrainian ally. If Musk is going to (in effect) assist Putin's invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine's allies should sanction Starlink, X and Tesla. At the very least, governments (and people) should stop using his fucking site already.
