Ok imma defend Marisa Mayer those grade school assignments are murder and any way to help your kid get the damn thing finished tonight is fair game. You do not love your child more just cos you helped them cheat artisanally.

(I do not defend her founding yet another ai wrapper startup and getting it puffed in the nyt and that backfiring, that’s just a waste of everyone’s time)

Growing up in the uk I never understood sim city, until I visited America as an adult.

How does the debugger know exactly which Swift module your code came from? The upcoming Swift 6.4 release makes it more precise than ever, tracking the module path in debug info instead of looking it up by name, for faster and more reliable debugging. www.swift.org/blog/module-...

What makes interpreters a pain in the^W^W^W interesting challenge for safety and performance is they defeat lots of tricks compilers can pull to mitigate the cost safety e.g. if the program you're interpreting is what runs the loop indexing into the array, you can't statically hoist those checks.

The original TT interpreter of course had manual bounds checks – but just like it's easy to forget those, they're also easy to duplicate in hard to track down ways. One of the reasons the Swift rewrite is faster is that Swift guarantees those checks, then is good at eliminating its own checks.

Not only is this incredible, it is a great source of learning materials for those of us transitioning from our bad C habits into safe and fast idioms:

I assume it's one specific consultant, who needs to be cast into the pit of fire, who is going to all these dem candidates and telling them how to use Unicode to bold stuff.

My neighbor told me ai models keep creating deepfakes so I asked what he’s doing and he said he just goes to the researchers and gets a paper on spotting deepfakes so I said it sounds like he's just feeding research papers to the ai companies and then his daughter started crying.

Just got a call from the school counselor, because the kids were reading a short story in English class by Roald Dahl about a murderer using cyanide and apparently looking up "how long does cyanide take to kill you" on the school wifi sets off ALL THE FIREWALL ALARMS.

God bless those print news reading teenagers.
