So according to the leading lights of the Trump administration, Autism makes you uniquely positioned to make good decisions AND unable to live independently?

Clara Jeffery@clarajeffery.bsky.social

With Musk tweeting autism supremacy stuff again today, good time to read @juliametraux.bsky.social’s piece on the subject www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

I agree with John Yoo. (A first!) States that want to execute convicts should have to shoot them in public, on camera, in all it's gory disgusting reality. And while we're at it, judge and jury should witness. Literally face the consequences of their decision. Let's see how that plays out.

John Yoo on Christa Pike, who survived a botched execution: "Why not use the firing squad? So I think what's gonna have to happen is Tennessee is gonna have to go back and try again."

Saying 'To the victor belong the spoils' to the UN is like saying 'I just wanted him dead' during your murder trial.

Trump: "In January, at my direction, the United States military conducted a massive military operation penetrating deep into the Venezuelan capital ... it was a war. To the victor belong the spoils."

Tomorrow, the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF. This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy. Every member of Congress must vote NO.

Sen. Susan Collins on X: "The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin has informed me that the Boston office of the DHS Inspector General has taken over the investigation of the Biddeford shooting in cooperation with the FBI."

The women have won four World Cups, but absolutely congratulations to the men for making it to the knockout round. Yes, this is a reminder that the USA has, in fact, won a World Cup — four of them. In case you heard otherwise.

If you watch the Obama Library, the World Cup, and the Knicks parade this afternoon -- and nothing else -- you can actually see the America we're supposed to be at age 250

The president is just posting his negotiating position on main. None of this is agreed to, and the fact that this is all he is asking for is a startling admission of U.S. strategic defeat. He is HOPING Iran will let him get back to a position worse than JCPOA.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

Child1's GP said there's a perfect correlation between the decline in smoking and the rise in ADHD meds - many people were unknowingly self-medicating with nicotine. I don't think he was suggesting child1 start smoking, at least I hope not. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Also, Tariffs. He doesn’t understand them either.

“With a single letter to Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre, though, Trump has thrown out all pretence of caring about anything other than himself – or that he understands the very basics of how the Nobel is awarded, what it’s awarded for, or even how international relations are supposed to work.”

It’s true. We shouldn’t pretend that. Trumpist culture is not the same as American culture and not equal. Trumpist culture is proudly ignorant, defiantly against America’s founding values and subsequently developed values, venomously bigoted, and generally despicable.

Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..." He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

People wildly overestimate the economic security experienced by past generations. There's no period in American history where significant numbers of young people were just handed high paying jobs. Nostalgia for a time that never existed is a huge problem.

A teenage 4channer was beat up by two 15 year olds in DC, which was spotted and quickly stopped by nearby police. He told his friends, the richest man in the world and the Vice President of the United States, that he was pummeled by a dozen adult Romanians. A week later, Trump federalized DC police.

I just wanted to look at a baseball story before I sat down to work. I did not look at the story because it is not a story. It is a "podcast." A hundred times in a hundred I would rather read a thing than watch or listen to it. I miss a lot that way, but it is what it is.

If my taxes don’t pave my roads or fix my bridges or keep my schools open 5 days a week or pay local teachers a living wage or help keep my hospital open or help my neighbor’s kid eat lunch or fund public television or my healthcare… Why the f’ck should I pay taxes?

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist. No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything. Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine. But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires? No.

I really wish journalists world stop pretending Trump is guided by anything but impulse and id. He's a toddler with no object permanence. We're governed by the lizard-brained impulses of a mad king, and the unwillingness of legacy media to acknowledge that reality is a big part of why we're here.

"President Donald Trump is no JFK," David Ignatius writes. "But he just did something in the Iran crisis that reminds me a bit of Kennedy’s decision to step away from the cacophony of ExComm and explore options."
