Finished @bigfangames.com Boltgun 2 with @alanahpearce.bsky.social 's Nyra Veyrath and loved it. It was just the right length, level design was good, weapons were satisfying and the final boss was epic. One of the best games of the year!

I listen to a lot of different video game podcasts and the reason this one is special is that the conversation is largely coming from experience as opposed to critical review or wish-casting. It's people who have made video games talking about them in a way that makes them seem accessible.

I think the wildest thing about being post-twitter is that you can tell, just in regular conversation, when someone still uses it. There’s an underlying anger and a like… disconnect regarding what people actually think/care about?

There is a school thought on writing that says "writing is only interesting if people are arguing" that leads writers to force characters to act contrary to thier personality. Alanah here is highlighting what I think is a better way to think about writing characters. Now I really want to see this.

The conversation around 2026’s TGA winner is extra weird because GTA 6 will likely not make the cut-off lol. The game comes out on November 19th - the entire voting process is usually completely done by then.

After we stopped recording this episode Mike and I both basically went 'well that's the most useful episode of this show we've ever recorded' hahaha.

I've been watching a lot of Alanah's game dev "behing the curtains" videos as of late and they are all very insightful and on point. VERY welcomed in this current industry landscape. And yeah, you have a hard time switching off the "dev" brain when playing. Which makes it a hard hobby to have.
