Lot of fear of people lying to polls. We don't have much evidence for it & don't need it to explain error. People uncomfortable sharing their choice are more likely to be in the now ~98% of people who don't respond than to take ~20 min survey to lie. Non-response much bigger deal

Huge event. Failed Jared Kushner/Trump luxury hotel project planned for Belgrade played a role in starting expanded protests against Vucic.

I’ve started getting Instagram ads for apps where you buy collectible cards online(?) and this one is even more insane than the others. Just straight up advertising a man in the throes of gambling addiction as some kind of positive

The only reason you’d use someone like this in your advertising is if you know your target market will see him and think “I identify with this man”

By my napkin math, total Bell Labs research expenditures from 1930-1980 were on the order of $50 billion in 2026 dollars. AI companies have spent ~$1 trillion so far: The equivalent of ~20 Bell Labs histories. In its history, Bell Labs researchers discovered the transistor, the solar cell, the laser

Funny thought experiment: Tech monopolies have spent about $1 trillion on AI development so far. How good of a chatbot could we have built for $1 trillion by just employing smart people to answer any question people might reasonably ask and collecting all the answers in a big lookup table?

Matthew Yglesias continues to say that talking about ICE and excessive force in immigration enforcement helps Republicans. He is obviously wrong about this and refuses to acknowledge the data. Way past time for everyone to update their priors on this.

Theres a million lil details in our investigation on the Louisiana justice of the peace courts, but this one sticks with me. One court, covering 30k renter households, has the 3rd highest eviction rate in the country. And this makes some people a lot of money: www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

It remains astonishing to me that James Dolan was able to stay out of the way *just* long enough for the Knicks to end a 53-year championship drought. Everything he's done from the second the team won seems like he's determined to remind you what a colossal asshole he is.

this is fucking appalling. i already knew james dolan (who owns the knicks and madison square garden) was a douche but this is next-level. www.nytimes.com/athletic/771...

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

“Departures from these practices should never be countenanced because they risk allowing prosecutors to impact national elections.” -Todd Blanche on DOJ’s 60-day rule, September 2024

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: The typical practice is DOJ doesn't usually release charges this close to an election. Even though Ms Lucas isn't on the ballot, her daughter is. Can you speak to the timing? BLANCHE: The 60 day or 90 day practice is not in writing. That's not part of the justice manual. There's nothing improper

At 10am Judge Ana Reyes will begin an evidentiary hearing in the golf course case at 10am. I'll try to live-blog from the US Courthouse media room for @lawfaremedia.org . This is a case to stop Trump from converting a historic public golf course, open to all, to a Trump style championship course.

IMO the big platforms should have people who keep an eye on all the big political accounts (regardless of alignment) because having them trip automated blocks is… bad.

I’m very curious how the El-Sayed video plays with normie voters. It’s obviously a great speech but it’s long. By comparison Ossoff gets “Trump is a corrupt bastard” in a 15 second soundbite. Sad to say but in today’s environment the latter is going to viewed in full a lot more
