seeing i have a whopping 50+ followers, it may be a good time to introduce ourselves and our work to the newcomers. hi all, i'm ali and together with @eda.daelightstudios.com we're Daelight Studios, an #indie #ttrpg initiative building game stuff we'd like to see out there.

i was talking with an indie TTRPG publisher, who said "industry standard for publishing someone else's game is 20% of revenue, or .2-1% of total kickstarter money." which, to me, sounds like "we can't make it work unless we swindle desperate designers." which led me to think: it shouldn't work

My first 5 TTRPGs, in the order I played them: 1. D&D 3/3.5 2. Mage the Ascension 3. Werewolf the Apocalypse (❤️) 4. Savage Worlds 5. I… don’t know 🤔 we read but didn’t play FUDGE iirc. Demon in a con game? A terrible 2e ad&d one-shot? Oh no, does Pathfinder1e count as a different game?! 😱 …

Kenzie@kenzius.bsky.social

1. DND 5e 2. Call of Cthulhu 3. Cyberpunk Red 4. Mythic Bastionland 5. Wanderhome

I don’t know if there’s a #dnd 3.5 renaissence going around, (even if there was) if a bunch of homebrew content is meaningful to share… But it’s not like there’s a cost to post, so here’s my continual work-in-progress #GFM github.com/alidursen/35...

And as an aside - you should not doubt how fucking uncool D&D was in 1998 as a game, and how poisoned that particular well had been for a while. Baldur's Gate turned that around, and if you do want a road from D&D then to D&D now, it does strike me that Bioware's needs more credit than they get.

lovely shamelessness: "100% natural materials—no paint, no glue, no artificial fillers" in an AI-slop youtube channel. even this sentence is chatGPT at its worst

I'd like to share this with pro-AI people but i fear they would feed the article to a chatbot to "read" it for them

Andy Bell@bell.bz

Very good read estherweidauer.com/articles/why...

try as I may, I can't shake the unease I felt when a publisher recommended me to feed their book into AI rather than read it. why go through all the trouble of translating, laying out, publishing and distributing a 500+ page book if you don't even want people to read it?

Roleplaying games are a way for humans to imagine and explore. We do not permit AI text in the Chaosium community content program, and sadly we're getting quite good at smelling it. To paraphrase HPL's description of the Necronomicon, AI text reeks with an unholy and unidentifiable stench.

Chaosium@chaosium.bsky.social

Update on the use of AI text in Chaosium Community Content programs @drivethrurpg.com. TL/DR: Don't use it in our programs. AI is not art. It is theft from you and every writer who has gone before you, repackaged dishonestly and shamelessly as original. www.chaosium.com/blogupdate-o...

I’ll bet that handwritten library not only changed the industry, but also was stolen and used to train LLMs

adamatomic@adamatomic.bsky.social

"dont worry, we didn't use LLMs for real art, like writing, or graphics, or sound, we only used it for dumb gross useless basic shit like programming" always the funnest thing to read as a programmer, as someone whose whole career is based on code, whose handwritten library changed the industry etc

Sigourney Weaver really landed that over-the-shoulder basketball shot in Alien 3.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Speaking of #pathfinder and crunchiness and players: Recently met a new group. One player is a self-titled Jimmy-type who is very excited about character options and builds. And I’m just relieved that we are playing a resilient game, not D&D (3.5 or 5) or PF1 because he’d break those games.

Pathfinder very much is "not too crunchy" and "an easy entry level ttrpg"... If what draws you is a game with colorful and complex character builds that interact with a whole bunch of tactical play If that's what draws you, you won't settle just trying some Tinyd6

I know I'm at odds with the price-quality heuristic devaluing this pamphlet, but I still think it's kind of crazy that this has been free on itch for like 2 months and only 16 people have downloaded it! It's a shame, because I put a lot of effort into it, and it's a really fun bit of storytelling.

Hey folks! I've got a FREE trifold ttrpg up for grabs called LIGHTS IN THE BLACK. It's a world-ending game of slumbering astronomy for 3-6 players. Roll dice, narrate dreams, and build constellations in service of mythologizing your dying civilization. rocketboot.itch.io/lights-in-th...

There are so, so many verified diaries of white Union soldiers at the beginning of the war saying "I don't know about this, I condemn the deplorable violence" and then they get down there and see slavery with their own eyes and immediately go "John Brown was right we gotta kill these motherfuckers"

Erik Loomis@erikloomis.bsky.social

And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

*sigh* not gonna lie, a little disappointed in our appx N result. wish people weren’t so positive in the comments just for “being polite.” on a more positive note, i’m now less troubled by the low ratings i gave.

That must be a Munchkin card

my gray elf magic-user got the _psilken pstraps of psionic pspringing_: now I can jump like a psychic phraint and escape melee. Non-Arduin campaigns generate rivals. Last week we fought two dwarven bands reflecting us in Rob's "Spearpoint" campaign. We made short work of them (no apologies). 2/2

I recently scrolled through Instagram, a platform I last used in 2019, and saw with horror that about 1 in 4 posts were ads

This post is unavailable.

oh no. this should've been a paraphrase, not the actual quote

Chris Franklin@errant-signal.com

Absolutely jawdropping to see Epic, once renowned for their engine prowess, literally opening a PR announcement with "Programming is hard. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher" Especially given the dearth of features in the EGS compared to Steam.

“I made an AI agent that applies to jobs for you!” -> a sign that a person is just a tool-user and not a systems-thinker. (Or just a tool themselves)

Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!
