important to remember: the only reason these guys are rushing headlong into this dangerous nonsense that they don't even fully understand is so that a few of them can beat the other ones to becoming trillionaires. that's why livelihoods, lives, and the entire current order is being put at risk

So do you think the six fingers are A: A joke acknowledging AI's flaws despite their obsession over it B: Deliberate internal sabotage C: A genuine oversight they actually managed to miss somehow D: A deliberate inclusion they know will generate buzz, even at their expense Leaning toward D myself.
This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

How could I forget the pièce de résistance: the original rules page said you HAD to generate games using AI, and they quickly changed that to something else, because somebody over there ALSO anticipated showing their ass over this. Imagine if every spotlight game doesn't use AI.

Personally, I'm anticipating the tidal wave of complete dumpster water this is going to generate. They are going to get tens of thousands of entries that are barely playable and the ugliest sludge anyone's ever seen. Even the winners are probably going to be wet cardboard at best.

I like how former Valve designer Chet Faliszek puts out this scathing critique about how Epic has all these resources to make AI work and hasn't, and jokes that "If it's so good, why don't you have game jams and turn out constant amazing games?" 48 hours later, it's put up or shut up I guess.

Pangram also backs the eye test here. Across the board, the pieces flag at 100% AI. There are important q's about how Pangram can and should be used in any publishing or editorial processes, but to completely ignore that kind of consistent result is, by my measure, to simply let scammers win.

Update: With further investigation, I've found that this guy has published literally 30+ pieces in mags over the past year, out of nowhere. That is, per @bonabooks.bsky.social's astute recommendations, just not believable on multiple levels, and they are full of consistent red flags of AI use.
It sure looks like a multi-thousand-dollar short story prize a couple of months ago went to a white American writer with a story that appears to be AI (and who has been transparently publishing a deluge of likely-AI work in over 20 mags and outlets over the last year).

So the "I left $AILab for ethical reasons" grift is starting up: I understand wanting that bag, wanting to be in on a big thing. But if you thought OpenAI or Anthropic were okay a year ago or so, I really am not willing to give you any credit for leaving now.

Brought to you by the company whose PC launcher is so bad that people put the free games they give away onto their Steam Wishlist instead
Epic Games is offering developers up to $50K to create AI-generated video games • Developers are encouraged to use AI to generate code, artwork, audio and dialogue • Participants can use unlimited AI agents to help develop their games
