@mischiefcomedy.bsky.social I showed my 6yr old some of your YouTube videos months ago and he thought they were the funniest thing ever. Today out of nowhere he decided to put on his own version of The Play That Goes Wrong in our living room and it's the cutest silliest thing ever.

This guy seems to hate gamers and game devs alike. Why does he somehow think this is ok to post publicly? Has the AI psychosis kicked in so hard that he thinks everything he says is gold?

Tim Sweeny's comment on the closure of Looking Glass Studios.

This and the whole thread

One of the most insightful comments about game development came from a former boss. He said “Making a game is like starting a band. You can’t throw money at a new studio with random AAA veterans and expect it to crank out a hit.” 🧵

I feel obliged to once again reiterate that lay offs and closures are not a reaction to the economy, but a failure of leadership. Each wave of closures and layoffs should be looked upon as a consequence of greed and incompetence. If you can't keep your people employed, you are bad at your job.

Musk would do this through those f*cking Trump Accounts they opened in every child's name without parental consent. I HATE these SO much. Parents cannot close the accounts. Parents cannot reject donations to the accounts. And we must hold on to donations for at least 5 years. I'm a state lawmaker.

A four storey building that I would turn into a combination book store, video game store, board game store, and arcade. The arcade would have 90's prices and the store areas would each have places to chill and try things out. And if people want to just read without buying, I'm ok with that too.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

I can't help but think that regardless of whether GTA 6 does well or poorly it's going to cause massive problems for the AAA games industry. If it does well, every AAA CEO will be copying it. If it does poorly, every AAA CEO will shed employees like unwanted fleas. That's my prediction.

I have to say, I've been so inundated with spam mail, calls, texts, and emails against a specific local politician that I feel the need to vote for him out of spite for those who keep spamming me. Except I'm actually a reasonable human who thinks before voting so that will not decide my vote.

PSA: The latest NVIDIA App update adds a Default-ON option that allows AI Agents to control the app... Might want to turn it off.. Even aside from being lame AI features, that feels like making security even worse by defaulting it ON.

My position as a reader remains unchanged. I wont purchase books made by the slop machine. I only want human authored tales. Please feel free to let me know which publisher/organizations are already using the tech so that I may avoid their catalogues.

Our position on generative AI remains unchanged. But an increasing number of organisations within the publishing industry are using the technology. In her blog post our CEO sets out why we want to see the adoption of cross-industry standards. buff.ly/DCPZPY2

I found this comic years ago when I lived in Korea and it was super helpful. Also he's not joking about the 15 minutes thing. It really is that easy. Learning to speak the language is much harder... I still have trouble pronouncing my wife's name correctly...

Happy Hangul Day! It's a Korean holiday honoring the best and easiest alphabet in the world! Everyone in Korea gets the day off work to contemplate it, but it only takes fifteen minutes to learn! So today, learn to read Korean in 15 minutes!

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

I recently started a new job after 8 months of searching. However I spend most days worrying that I'll be let go because I only use LLM-based "AI" whenever I am explicitly told to use it and I haven't embraced it wholeheartedly. But it sucks. Sure it produces crap fast but it's just crap.

To be fair, the LLM did produce "a" diagram faster than me. But most of the time was spent trying to get the AI to fix mistakes and rearrange elements so it was readable. Whereas mine was useful/readable from the first draft, the LLM generated one didn't really improve over time.

Regardless, I refuse to use LLM based tools in my personal life, I won't read books, listen to music, or play games if ANY part of them was generated. I feel like a hypocrite that I occasionally have no choice but to use it for work occasionally but more and more I'm actively avoiding it there too.

It gets worse now that my job doesn't involve coding but advising people on code. I can produce a slideshow, spreadsheet, or system diagram more accurately and with higher quality in about the same time as the LLM can do it. I tested it.

I was explicitly told to use AI to create some diagrams and so I did. But at the same time I started creating my own. In the end, I finished first and with a better product. I showed both versions to my bosses without explaining which was which. Mine was actually useful.

Speed is secondary to quality for me. Low quality code is unmaintainable and error-prone. I've built my career on fixing unmaintainable buggy code and writing high quality easy-to-read code. I'm not going to contribute to the problem by using a tool that is only capable of bad code.

Duke Nukem. The original 2D sidescroller. The first time I can remember getting in trouble over video games was doodling my own levels for it during class in 2nd grade.

I started a new job several weeks ago. It involves 0 coding. Talking about code, yes, but no writing of code. I miss coding. I had to make time to write some today on a personal project and dang does it feel good to write some code.

holy shit, this is the whole ballgame in a single paragraph gAI systems require mass theft of copyrighted works, for the explicit purpose of replacing the market for the people they stole from, and the people in charge knew what they were doing ahead of time, and did it anyway

Jason Kint@kint.bsky.social

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

So what you're saying is you've got a list of games that use AI that didn't disclose it that need to go on my "do not buy" list. But I'm guessing you can't share it publicly?

Hopefully this confirmation will finally pop the bubble but who knows....

I've seen a lot of game companies use Gen AI in their games without telling people, getting caught, then doing a game update and announcing they "removed all the GenAI". Honestly I can't trust them. If they used it for art it's highly likely they used it for code and that can't be removed.

The closest boardgame store to me has been bought by a new owner. RIP old board game store. The new one has barely any games, awkward lighting and decorations and waaaay too many tables for its size. The old one was cozy and inviting with tons of games to buy. It will be missed.

Don’t use Copilot, because a malicious worm can propagate (and alter text) in documents and emails that you share with it. Don’t use AI, basically. Ever. The End.

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is. GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart. But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.
