Got bitten by a spider yesterday and my hand is currently double its usual side, but no sign of special powers yet. But I have drawn round the redness with a pen to marvel at how fast and far it is spreading!

I was expecting to need to buy new clothes after such significant weight loss, but I did not expect my glasses to start sliding down my face because my cheeks are shrinking 😂

She is sulking. She flounces off if I stop stroking her and goes to her bed in a mood, but then stares at me until I fix the situation by summoning her back and promising constant pets 😆

If you keep up with the financial news too you’ll see that C-Suite employees of the big AI and AI adjacent companies have sold off billions of dollars of stock in their own companies in the last 6 months. The smart money’s cashing out of this pump and dump whilst they can before the rug pull

*Even their financial infrastructure is a strange ouroboros, a self-inflating ring of I-loan-to-you and you-loan-to-me *It's like Enron with Nvidia chips instead of natural-gas

I am in that 'can't possibly put the heating on during the day, even though I do work at home' phase, so the dogs are on a rotation as to who sits closest to me to share body warmth 😆

Horse people are probably still the worst. I think every person I've edited who has featured horses in their books has entirely regretted it by the end of the editorial process.

KJ Charles@kjcharleswriter.com

1) I thought we all knew that bird people are even worse than horse people (and only slightly behind gun people) in this department. Beware. 2) Editor is not the same role as fact-checker. 3) What a shitty thing to say when his editor has probably stopped him showing his arse a hundred other ways.

Yikes! Games company for sale. Talent not included. One indifferent owner. Bad times for those affected.

BoardGameWire 🔜 Spiel Essen@boardgamewire.bsky.social

UK-based Osprey Games has let go of its entire board and card game development team and cancelled its booth at the upcoming Spiel Essen game fair - five months after parent company Bloomsbury began searching for a buyer for the operation: boardgamewire.com/index.php/20...

I am fast coming up on two stone lost and no one talks about the expense of needing new cushions everywhere because your arse padding is rapidly being lost...

Monstrous, really, from an organisation that purportedly exists to support authors, and then back-stabs them by getting into bed with the technology built on their stolen words.

I promise I am not using AI in any part of the process: not the reading (which is why it takes so long), not the rejection emails, not the cover copy or the taglines. The sense of pride I feel when I finally nail cover copy will not be taken from me, even if the process feels like blood from a stone

NEW: Staff at HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette told @adamm0rgan.bsky.social AI is infiltrating their workplaces, from generating cover art and back cover copy, to publicity materials, to rejection emails, as execs tell junior staff to "champion" the tech. www.wired.com/story/book-p...

But... I don't know my preferences. I have picked up books at random that became my new favourites; I have ended up disliking books that I *should* love because they contain things I've liked before. This is just a wild take, because the very act of trying new and fresh stuff is learning your prefs!

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Nationalise water immediately. My water bill has just gone up again, even though we're using the same or less water than before, and I need water to, y'know, live, so why the fuck am I being charged for the privilege? Oh yeah, so some wanker CEO can ensure he has enough for his new Mercedes...

Jeffrey Archer's death reminds me of the time he told a really boring story while a guest on Dame Edna's show. "Marvellous" said Edna after it petered out to its conclusion, "and I'm sure that'll make a wonderful anecdote someday".

So, this year of our Lord 2026, the actual Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are in play, with War (everywhere now), Famine (due to environmental collapse), Death (inevitably following the other three) and now Pestilence...

Air passengers flying into Moscow from Irkutsk where a lab technician died of the plague are now being given mandatory temperature checks by masked staff before they’re allowed to disembark.

I am delighted that I have signed The Fifth Inflection for the UK - this fantastically indefinable slice of legal speculative fiction is probably closest to The City and the City by China Mieville, but is flavoured with Gautam's unique and brilliant insight.

Have to say, the rise in subscriptions and the price of them, accompanied by the horrific push of AI into everything, makes me want to go back to Nokia brick phones with no Internet and buying all my media in physical form.

Buy the book that makes me blush every time I talk about it at work 😂

I mean, apart from all the ethical issues and the environmental issues of AI, does anyone else now struggle to read promotional posters on Facebook for restaurants and events etc? They are crazy busy, with lots of images, and words everywhere, and I can't just glance at them to get sensible info.

I have landed two covers this week - always so nerve-wracking, but so brilliant when your authors love what you've done. Can't wait to reveal our covers for Headspace by Jill Tew and Alastair Fall and the Restless Dead by Marianne Gordon 🥰

Ahhhh, I read some of this when it was on sub and absolutely loved it. It is a treat of a book and I will be picking up a copy 😁

Was given a steroid injection on Tues to help with diagnosis of inflammation. I was told that if there was no inflammation, I might feel a small bump in wellness, but if there was, it would feel transformative. Today is the first day in five years I have been able to walk without any pain...

Well, just finished my 80th book of the year. I set myself 80 as a reasonable goal (since I do cheat and add the books that I commission and work on, and I am sending out a good 14 or so out this year, I believe!) I think I might be able to hit 100 this year, which is going back to pre-pandemic days

As a comparison, I read 16 books in 2020 and 18 in 2021, because I had zero attention span and could only re-read books I'd already tackled, rather than anything new. I lost two years of reading to that damn pandemic, and am only catching up now on releases from those two years.
