Feeling like joining a game jam soon. Anyone need an (mostly inexperienced) programmer?

I'm generating generic job names for a game I'm making, and some of these company names are already cracking me up.

Don't forget. Don't mess it up. Crow Country is pretty great, more people should visit this absolutely not haunted abandoned theme park.

Well, it finally happened! After 9 years of Unity dominance, Godot was the most used game engine for GMTK Game Jam 2026 submissions. 🤖 Godot - 47% 🎮 Unity - 34% 🛠️GameMaker - 5% 🚀 Unreal Engine - 3% ✨ Other - 11%

Remote work at a coffee shop? No thanks, I'll go to a fast food restaurant today Refill diet soda has gotta be a little healthier than refill coffee, right?

I’m growing tired of the phrase “must be studied”. Not only does its popular use add nothing to conversation… but also… YOU CAN DO THAT STUDY! You can start investigating and sharing your findings on the subject! Don’t just act like someone else MUST do it, and then just wait for it. Go ahead!

2am thoughts: Kamen Rider Agito is testing my patience by having a protagonist who stops the plot and is wholly uninterested in solving the central mystery, even 20 episodes in. The other two riders are going through hell in order to find clues and become stronger, meanwhile Agito plays dumb

Shoichi also makes me mad because h’s just too good at fighting. He never struggles. He’s had ONE moment of introspection to fight one for, and then nothing, he just wins or gets saved by deus ex machina. He mogs the characters that DO try and fight or progress the plot. It’s frustrating to see!

I’ll see it through to the end, as I still enjoy the choreography, craftsmanship, special effects and just generally, the production makes this a real treat to watch. It’s just that the writing is not nearly as sharp as Kuuga’s, so far

Shoichi (agito) plot: haha mana-chan don’t worry about anything, I’ll bake you a cake! Hikawa plot: mana-chan, I’m too busy investigating your father’s death Ryo plot:

I’m so glad I’m not hooked on Twitter anymore. It really feels like for every genuine tweet, there’s 9 other posts rage baiting, engagement baiting, or just straight up bot content. Every time I see “There’s a reason for this. And you’re not ready to hear it” I just close the site.

Rereading your own work and improving it is easy. After all, you likely know a solution just from thinking of the problem, or the solution is just to write less Fixing problems from feedback someone gave you? that's when the real problem solving has to come in. it's so much harder to think lol

got feedback from my gf on a vn we're working on, and she told me "the writing's fine and good but I think I'm struggling to find a real hook or a reason to care at the beginning" very valid criticism, just harder to do than I thought it would be

3,200 is such a ridiculously big number. The cynic in me can hardly believe there's that many industry jobs left in general.

BREAKING: Xbox will cut 3,200 jobs as part of a major reorganization, and divest from five studios: - Compulsion and Double Fine will go indie - Ninja Theory and Undead Labs will be sold - Arkane to enter consultation process Here's the full story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

I’m having a dream where we can host doujin game conventions, and instead of selling discs or flash drives, devs can ask people to bring their own usb’s and get an exclusive game! of course, malware makes this impossible. But man imagine owning a physical, exclusive game!

Conflicted over this, but happy to see that community members and maintainers are even more conflicted than I am. Just this weekend, we held our gamedev community meetup and I held a presentation about the objective drawbacks of using AI in games. It was a contentious topic, but I feel like -

Godot Engine@godotengine.org

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...

taste in my mouth. as a new contributor, should I start using AI tools to autocomplete and do menial tasks, since the maintainers seem to use them too? Am I falling behind them? Is my human code going to be seen as slow or sluggish? what about AI research? is my human searching slow as well? -

I'll keep observing and see how the situation unfolds, I'll keep an eye on Godot 4.5.2 and 4.7, but I find it really comforting to see the community come together on this and staying resilient against the movement into AI tools. I really want to keep using godot, but I also want it to be good.

the group in general agreed with my stance: It's not the fact that godot is slop. It isn't, it's perfectly usable. Rather, it's the permission that them using AI implies: It gives everyone else the pass to start using AI, instead of contacting community members, joining groups -

and participating in general. AI is easy, it keeps you complacent, ignorant of all the dangers. The policy narrows the use of AI in code greatly, and certainly condemns those who would use it instead of actually interacting with humans. But it doesn't condemn it wholly, which does leave a weird -

Really hope the Godot team draws a firm stance on this AI situation soon, and hopefully they oppose it. I've had a really good time using it, and it would really suck to build up ANOTHER community and knowledge base if they do decide to stick with AI.

Unity taught us that people WILL switch when the corporation crosses a line. Unreal is heading down a short-sighted, self-cannibalizing road against the users that took the time to learn Blueprints, in favor of AI. Godot, once free from corporate wishes, could cave to AI use.

this is the kind of show that makes cool takes look effortless - but it isn't until you process it that you realize just how AMAZING they are

Also shoutouts to the VFX - sure, they look goofy as hell for today's standards. But I don't think I struggled to take them seriously due to how straightforward they're played. No irony, no shame over them, just doing the best they can to push the story forward, and succeeding!

oh I haaaaated that new starfox reveal. It's bad. The visuals miss the mark on any charm the original had, the extra dialogue misses the magic of the short-but-sweet quips, and none of this is justifying spending my money on it.

I figured I should start logging stuff I'm working on Today I was messing with our VN project's sounds, and using test sounds from a certain game I couldn't stop giggling
