coining a new game + general dev term, please invest now: qolslop both GTNH and mhwilds have large upcoming updates and both have been releasing a steady stream of QoL feature posts This is true with GTNH but suspect elsewhere: increased QoL additions are correlated with increased use in LLM code

this is also the case with FFXIV, though of course I cannot really say anything about the codebase. This expac has had a *ton* of QoL feature adds and, while some of them are admittedly nice or already exist as plugins, I don't think they meaningfully contribute to the game experience

i dont want to insanepost too hard but i genuinely think that this will become a problem that gets noticed more and more over the next couple of years with new and existing games and products. qolslop will result in some either hilarious or nightmarish bugs, trust

i've noticed this with ffxiv as well over the past expansion. *lots* of exceptionally minor QoL adds that ultimately do nothing for the game experience but are "quick wins". Lots of these, though, bloat the codebase while contributing very little to the actual product.

The US really just doesn't have the architecture to do Dark Souls 3-style eclipses

deleting all of my standard social media (xitter, fb, tumblr, etc.) except for bsky and barely using this site has been one of the best things I've ever done for my mental health still trapped in the yt hellscape but i enjoy my slop i could just use my lifetime nebula more but the slop calls

ive also have had all of my machines fully on NixOS, more importantly off windows, for a few months now, and it's been going swimmingly. I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not how little I miss it. I still need to spin up my music production environment, but I think it won't be that bad to do

OK, gonna throw this spicy bomb out there. If you're fortunate enough to have disposable income, then right now it is your duty to use that income wisely. You have agency over how you spend it and you should own how you spend it. Your decisions do, in fact, affect stock prices of big corporations.

There is a star and a star and a dangerous gravity. Finally finished @sunsetvisitor.studio's 1000xRESIST. An absolutely impeccable story in an incredibly flawed (but charming) envelope. 1000% recommend you play through it. I'm a huge fan of the way it approaches its non-linearity and storytelling.

I love stories about inter-generational trauma and motherhood and inherited illness and the fear of letting go / holding too tightly / letting too much go / lack of communication and the hong kong protests and diasporas and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

This is one of those games that I, as a child, would pray to one day see a AAA recreation of, one that could fully realize its vision. I think that a game of this style is probably not the right medium for it. I think as a book, or VN, or PowerPoint, the narrative would be much better serviced.

Certainly though, the rough-around-the-edges adds to its charm in some places. But the unity assets more often than not detract from it for me. I'd rather they just have low-poly non-textured placeholders (looking at you, soy sauce bottle and other pantry goods.)

re: "transgender mice" The White House published whitehouse.gov/articles/202... , which purports to sum research on "making mice transgender." There are a couple problems with the funding listed. First: these are studies which study the *effects* of cross-sex hormone treatments on

whitehouse.govYes, Biden Spent Millions on Transgender Animal ExperimentsLast night, President Donald J. Trump highlighted many of the egregious examples of waste, fraud, and abuse funded by American taxpayers, including $8

mice, which is decidedly not *making mice transgender*. It's a baity headline on the face. The overton window *used* to be "we don't have enough research on the effects of hormone treatments on people long-term", which is WHAT THESE WERE DOING, TO RECTIFY THAT SUPPOSED ISSUE.

Additionally, the funding summary is a little incorrect. The second line item contains over $1,000,000 awarded during TRUMP'S first term. The final line item is mysteriously over-counting by ~$500,000. So, 6.7 million *at best*, but I still fail to see the issue with the existing funding.
