There's nuance here about "how do we use platforms owned by the fascists". You *have to understand the political purpose of the platforms* in order to use them to subvert authoritarians. For the most part, Americans simply do not. Centrists (including DNC consultants) do not. Major media does not.

Key lessons from Brazil Amplify our people. Ignore the opposition. Use the tools owned by fascists to defeat the fascists? Meet the people where they are. May need to reconsider my staunch position of boycotting Meta for the reason. Thoughts?

re lrp: I read something on a fat acceptance blog long ago which I try to do sometimes: when I am on public transport or have an idle moment at my job, I look at people around me and imagine what that person would look like to me if I was someone who knew and loved them.

Seriously, though, this gets me right in my most implausible phobia. Big Monster From The Deep swimmin up to swallow me--and a sperm whale at that! Those guys give me the creeps, what with their uncanny, stupid little mandibles and their ability to dive to great depths and eat giant squid!

ME: *sniffling as the shade of Todd tells his dog that he was a Good Dog but he can't save him, and the ghosts were metaphors all along, and to let him go* DOG ACTOR: Yes, hello?? TREATS? #GoodBoy

Honestly, though, having a dog here is cheating. Film could be a technical pile of shit and it would still have me tearing up right here because THIS IS A DOG and humans have FEELINGS about dogs! #GoodBoy bsky.app/profile/amel...

I'm gonna hand it to the filmmakers here: they've managed to assemble a decent boilerplate haunted-house movie around an angelically affable dog. Props to them for that! #GoodBoy

See, you put your dog out in the rain, he's gonna get sucker-punched by Pumpkinhead or something while you choke to death on all those squibs you swallowed! The drums will get VERY anxious! #GoodBoy

Oh, NO! The dog is being led by a will-o'-the-wisp the EXACT Colour Out of Space, leading me to wonder if he can even SEE it--oh, it was just a scary dream. ... I wonder if dogs can dream magenta #GoodBoy

WHOA HELLO, Ghost Dog, didn't see you there! OLD GUY: So anyway I found your grandpa's body, but We NeVeR fOuNd ThE bOdY oF HiS dOg! GHOST DOG: Did you yahoos even CHECK the basement, I'm totally down here #GoodBoy

Oh, no! Toddguy is possessed by a dog-hating Kandarian demon! Or he's not feeling great on account of having dyingitis, but dude, if you're gonna kick your dog out of your bed, make a bed for the dog, dammit! #GoodBoy

... And I'm nearly derailed when the black-and-white movie Todd is watching contains a strikingly recognizable Alexander László fanfare. I might watch too much Mystery Science Theater 3000, y'all #GoodBoy

So as I'm thinking about humans thinking that animals have amazing magical senses because they spend hours staring at a corner or whatever, I wonder what WE would look like to them. I, for one, can spend HOURS staring at a block of paper with squiggles on it. I'm sure that's incomprehensible to dogs

Oh, no! Todd has come down with Coughing-Up-Blooditis! I think it's fatal, but Todd has decided to move to Grandpa's Evil Dead Cabin In The Woods! Surely the Canceritis won't think to look for him THERE! #GoodBoy

The dog has seen Evil Dead, though, and he exhibits anxiety when Todd goes into the basement to reset the breaker. ... well, okay, he exhibits Alertly Hoping For A Treat, but the sound design informs us that Indy The Character is hearing eerie howls from the basement #GoodBoy

PUPPY VIDEOS! Basically Indy's life with his blurry human, Todd, and this movie didn't have the budget for it, but you can totally hear Randy Newman's "You've Got A Friend In Me" playing over this montage of Puppy Home Videos. #GoodBoy

Now it mostly looks old-timey and sorta goofy to me, but these mfers burned themselves into my toddler brain as THE SCARIEST THING IN THE WORLD. And the skelly coming at the camera still gives me the willies

So as I sit here writing fanfic for my own work, surrounded by pocket field guides, books, and 11 open Wikipedia tabs, I sometimes find myself wishing I could write with the confidence of John Boyne copypasting a list of monster parts into his Very Serious Historical Fiction Novel For Adults

I recall being utterly fascinated by the way we watched Jules Naudet dissociate through the camera, as though this is his designated, destined Task, and if he records it, he will get through this ordeal. The camera becomes a survival talisman

The image that has stuck with me for 25 years is after the goddamn building collapses on him, when one of his first actions is to dust off the camera lens. It feels like such a magical-thinking, human thing to do

i am incredibly excited to share our research about how paying people’s rent through mutual aid made an impact on minnesota this year we accidentally collected more data than anyone ever has for an effort like this, and can very seriously say we prevented an eviction bubble that everyone expected
