I absolutely 1000 percent support Talarico. But I finally had to unsubscribe/stop messages today. His campaign sent me something **every hour** over the last few days.
My support is always with Dem candidates, but this excellent piece outlines some very real concerns about fundraising - and about party leadership. Between ActBlue and candidates who use NGP Van campaign software, I get at least a half dozen texts a day. In recent weeks, it's more like 20.
Holy fuck, a new Everything But The Girl song, album next year. Perfection. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs-N...

If you’re a Democrat with an email address or a phone, you get these pleas: A candidate needs your dollars. Democracy needs your dollars. It doesn’t have to be much—but it can’t be nothing. But where does your donation actually go? trib.al/skt74iy

An important note: domestic violence can come in many forms, including emotional abuse. My sister's experience with her emotionally abusive husband was a contributing factor in her death by suicide. Please share this info.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline provides 24/7 confidential assistance. To speak with a trained advocate, visit thehotline.org or text START to 88788.
I still don't have my ballot. My spouse's ballot arrived 2 weeks ago, a few days after it was mailed.
Out today: U.S. Postal Service’s cost-cutting measures have endangered the validity of ballots cast in rural areas, where late-arriving ballots soared in the primaries. With @kbmorales.bsky.social and @msweetharris.bsky.social: www.propublica.org/article/mail...

The "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game is bullshit and always has been. These crazy bastards used data science to prove it: pudding.cool/2026/10/kevi...
As a Pittsburgher, I know our local usage of "yinz" apparently came from "you ones" - an attempt to address a plural group - so it's fascinating to see the parallel of "that one."
In 1934, we added a gender-neutral pronoun for a single third person. ‘Thon’ was short for “that one.” It didn’t catch on.
These people don't have even a basic understanding of what those property taxes are covering. Maybe cities should abandon property taxes and start sending a la carte bills for everything. Or deny road access, waste water treatment.....
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.
Dear @dylanthyme.bsky.social - I'm pretty sure #ComfortRead is my favorite of yours yet (no disrespect to the other wonderful books that came before it)!
I read about this in McDonald's memoir a few years ago. I'm glad his son reconnected with him (and his birth mother). www.avclub.com/michael-mcdo...

I still remember when Miller was a C-level talent who popped up on TV sometimes (including....a kids show?) in Pittsburgh. The fact that he's had a 40ish year career since - and that it included SNL - is one of the great mysteries of the universe.
This is the worst idea I’ve heard since they gave _Joanie Loves Chachi_ a second season

Lived in Pittsburgh in the 90s and 00s. Suit and tie wasn't unusual for downtown, but if you were beyond that, you'd absolutely get asked if yinz were going to a wedding or funeral all dressed up. I had neighbors and family who would wear their "good sweatpants" to fine dining spots....
It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.
This dude would not be the first politician to forget that Pennsylvania exists beyond its southeastern corner. He might be the first to wear a blazer that looks like the couch from the set of The Golden Girls. And his hair is almost Traficant-ly.
Rep. David Maloney, a Republican who represents parts of Berks County, wants to rename Lake Erie to “Lake Pennsylvania,” arguing that the state’s only Great Lake has become increasingly important to Pennsylvania’s economy and identity.
The stupidity, it BURNS. Hollywood is making a fucking HAWAII FIVE-O movie, so revisiting an existing premise isn't a foreign concept. The audience wants the original. A slight update for today's guests and audience, like the Sabrina episode? Sure. Otherwise, give us the original recipe Muppets!
There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)
One generation, too. Parents both born in late 1930s, both lived without indoor plumbing for much of their childhoods. Dad lived with a relative in HS and also had no electricity, iirc.
how far back do you have to go in your family tree to someone who lived without indoor plumbing for me, that would be one (1)
As a former bookseller, next year will mark 30 years of me being sick of hearing about HP. Books, films, and now the author's horrifying personal crusade. Please, someone make it stop and/or disappear.
Even aside from Rowling being an insane monster, Jesus fuck I am sick of hearing about Harry Potter
I miss old style conservatives, the kind who would complain and shake their fists at the scourge of teen pregnancy.
Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”
Amazing band. I've all but sworn off air travel AND concerts, but I would have made my way to Chicago for this had I known about it. I love their whole catalog of music (but wish at least one or two early tracks had been on the playlist).
It has been 23 years since The Innocence Mission played Chicago but, as lead singer Karen Peris explained, the traffic was bad. Either way, you couldn’t be part of that sold out crowd and not feel grateful to see them play again and cherish every moment of it.
Introduce yourself with 10 acts or bands you’ve seen live: Alison Moyet Ben Folds Five Andrew Bird Tina Turner The Go-Go's Shawn Colvin Matthew Sweet Bettye LaVette The Cardigans Tori Amos (Alas, I've missed a number of favorite bands/musicians live - the woes of a US based British music fan...)
Way late to this and so skipping the verbiage and announcing 10 acts I have seen live … in a theater (fewer than 3,000 seats) or club. R.E.M. Elliott Smith Neko Case Jack DeJohnette Leonard Cohen Randy Newman Emmylou Harris Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Pulp
RIP Jaye P. Morgan. Feeling the lyrics of this one today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6YP...
