⭐ Welcome to AndyK250's 2026 Media Thread!⭐ For the past couple of years, I've tried to thoughtfully keep track of and post about the things I've watched, played, or read over the course of a year. I'll be continuing that tradition this year, starting with this post.

Talking to guy from the year 120: Yeah, and this is called a tablet. Hey, you guys have tablets, huh? Well this one’s… a little bit different lol. This one tells me when anyone in the world has gotten lip fillers or Sammy Hagar gets married

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s β€˜sleight of hand’ -It’s β€˜bated breath’ -It’s β€˜lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s β€˜brass tacks’ -It’s β€˜free rein’ -It’s β€˜toe the line'

This may be my favorite X-Files commercial ever. β€œWHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT YOU!?!?”

I presume that the trend where YouTubers make grotesquely outsized facial expressions in their thumbnails must exist because a lot of people find it compelling, and I just want to say: I look down on those people.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday OndΕ™ej SurΓ½ saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

theatlantic.comThe Man Who Saved the Internet YesterdayOndΕ™ej SurΓ½ was a relatively anonymous volunteer working on PHP security. Then the internet exploded.

when you see what happened after the first hundred years of the printing press spreading, it becomes pretty obvious, this was gonna be what it was gonna be

I also wanted to pull out a special part of the piece: fuck Jensen Huang. By forcing customers to take early delivery of GPUs to boost quarterly revenues, he artificially inflated the price of RAM and every consumer electronic. What he and his hyperscale paypigs have done is morally reprehensible.

Free newsletter: In July, Apollo Economist Torsten Slok said that "AI better work out, or we have a problem." Facing ever-growing high-interest debt, negative-EBITDA AI labs and $200bn+ in warehoused GPUs, that's exactly what the AI industry has. www.wheresyoured.at/ai-had-bette...

KIM KITSURAGI - β€œThe pinball machine?” The lieutenant glances at the machine. β€œGurdi's Goats. A classic.” REACTION SPEED - Oh it's more than just a classic -- a must-play. All serious pinballers have attempted a *tempo-run*.

In 2017, I wrote about my obsessesion with nun cinema for ClΓ©o: A Feminist Film Journal (RIP). With the re-release of The Devils, I thought it was an appropriate time to reshare the essay, which includes many observations on Ken Russell’s masterpiece. cleojournal.com/2017/04/21/w...

Isn't this a Mumford & Sons' song?

Do parents still freak out over their kids’ music, or did they pretty much tucker themselves out when music was still like, β€œBeen flippin my quarter all over town, lookin for some kettle corn to flip my frown”

β€œThe internet is a store but it used to be a library” hits me like a slug to the chest

They're renewing Baywatch for a 12-episode revival season in 2027 and I can't think of a better encapsulation of everything wrong with the current media environment. You can't distill the essence of Baywatch into a tidy 12 episodes; it needs a fully-bloated 24-episode season where *nothing* happens

Have you looked at the night sky recently? It is ABSURD how many satellites there are, and it will get >1000Γ— worse in our lifetimes. A few billionaires and state actors will ruin the night sky for the next few *centuries*. This ought to be a much, much bigger story than it is

Pauline Barmby@pbarmby.bsky.social

The title says it all: arxiv.org/abs/2610.10834 Still in the peer review process but we* felt it Important to get this out there. Satellite companies are not complying with visual brightness limits. Our estimates are that it will get worse, especially at twilight. *I’m a minor part of β€œwe” here

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

"These people, they feel like nobody looks upon their works and despairs. Certainly ye mighty don't. It makes them feel boundless and bare. It just shatters their visages. Well, I look on their works and despair. And you should, too."

Mike Collins makes apologies for white nationalists like his son in law: "These people feel like they've been forgotten. And they're just lashing out."

I deserve kudos for somehow killing the pretentious pedant in me at the other night's film club discussion in which people were talking about which Nosferatu is better, "the old Nosferatu" (Murnau) or "the new Nosferatu," (Eggers) while failing to recognize "the 'Janus Films' Nosferatu" (Herzog).
