For 3 glorious months there was this dude working the register at the dollar general across the street from me who’d always look at your checkout, say β€œnah that’s too much for all that” and deduct some random amount

To folks who follow me on Bluesky & appreciate the journalism I do. Can you please read the EPA story and post on social media platforms if you are so moved. This kind of work is important. But it only matters if people read it and engage with it. Here's the link. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, 5yo at a rep theater. I remember walking out completely jazzed and being told I’d seen it before so they took me again cuz they knew I’d like it

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

Yo #RUSH fansβ€” a tape of #PRESTO rough mixes just dropped and it's going to blow your fragile little mind…!!! jfc i hope this isn't a.i. listened to the whole thing and there are absolutely alt vocals and early Lerxst licks all over it so I suspect it's LEGIT… 🎢πŸ”₯🀯 www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgQA...

Keen eyed observers will note Washboard Chaz has two fliers for two different clubs in this photo from 2011. He was so ubiquitous back then there’s even a joke about it in #LaundryDay: when WWOZ’s live-wire is heard while Dee puts on makeup, every club has either Chaz or Alex McMurray playing. πŸ˜‰πŸ“½οΈ

It's called film "footage" because camera operators initially held the cameras with their feet. That changed after a film shoot in 1931, when an operator got a foot cramp and was forced to hold the camera in his hands. The "footage" he got that day was extraordinary. That man's name? Hans Cameraman.

It's crazy that this band lives walking distance from me and yet I learned about them from Jeff Tweedy's newsletter

I'm last to the Shane Gillis discourse, but here I am. Let's go. There's much more to be said than can fit here in a 90 second clip so for my full comments, listen to the intro to this week's Savage Lovecast, out now!

I used to rock out to Flood (on cassette) with my grandma on road trips through the Pacific Northwest. Extremely cherished memory. And I sing Dr. Worm to my kid, and they were the best concert I’ve ever been to, and you won’t ever convince me TMBG is not an absolute top tier band
